Sneaky new Reporting Rule

I am writing in order to bring to your Subscribers notice of a recent newly implemented rule to once again cause further stress and anxiety to all of us Seniors, who have working Part time/Full time Partners and who are not drawing a Govt Pension......

My Wife who is not drawing a Govt Pension has a regular three days a week part time job, her Salary and hours never change...I am on a small Part Govt Pension....and have been for three years now...... Centrelink has always been aware of my Wifes Income and is obviously reflected in the amount I get paid......If there is any any changes I advise Centrelink as a 'Notification Reporter'.....

Just recently I have been advised by Centrelink to my dismay, that I now have to report this income fortnightly on a set date 'forever'  until my Wife stops work! .....I am nearing 80 years old and now have to report by either the App, Phone or Online (If you are IT Literate) regularly or I will lose my Pension.........how humbling and insulting that is, when you are just wanting to have a stress free, less worrying retirement, yet Big Brother is now making you report like a Schoolboy to just receive a minimal Pension after working and paying taxes for nearly 65 years, as I am sure your many other subscibers will relate to...what if we are sick or incapacitated or just unable to physically report?

I have written via email to Hank Jorgensen as he is supposed to be accessible about these queries, however, he evidently is'nt and one of his Staff contacted me to try to convince me that this is part of the new rules, is very easy to do and has been implemented in part because of the Robo debt debacle.....I was also told there will be no chance of the Reporting rule to be abolished, as it has now become Govt Policy...and our local Member of Parliament would not be able to help....

It now seems that all of us and there must be tens of thousands who are retired with a partner working regularly part time or not....now have to change our lives, to fortnightly reporting to the Government.....or lose our Pension! .............Once again, they don't care about us.........

If anyone has some way we can change this, I would be interested to hear how......

Understand your predicament. Have tried to advocate for a Pension which is not income/asset tested.

Neither establishment political party is interested. In fact, I am told Bob Hawke (Labour) was the one

who introduced the asset/income test on the Age Pension. Now, the LNP is progressively tightening

the asset test. Seems they all care only for money, and not for the welfare of senior citizens. Those who

struggled to " better " themselves by saving rather than spending money over their working lives are

now being punished for that. However, those who blew their assets and money ( gambling, overseas trips, etc.)

are rewarded with higher pension payments. The massive bureaucracy required to administer the asset/income

test is a classic example of false economy, and plain stupidity. Inefficiency that messes everyone around,

and just helps bureaucrats build their wasteful empires at the expense of honest hardworking citizens.

The only way to change things is to vote for independents, minor parties and use "grey power" to lobby

these fools. Incidently, New Zealand does NOT have a pension asset test, and is a much smaller economy!

HELLO!

You are spot on Early

If you saved for your old age in Australia, you are now penalised not only through the pension but also access to health services.

I hear you & sympathise with you, but voting for an Independent is a wasted vote, as an Independent will never form a Government & would not pressure the Federal Government to make changes. The only way to at least be heard, & possibly get a result, is by organizing a National PETITION (formal request) & making a demand on the applicable Federal MP to raise the concern in Parliament.

Agree 100%; especially re.

"New Zealand does NOT have a pension asset test "

And

"care not for the welfare of senior citizens "

They only care for billionaires like gerry harvey etc etc.  Govt is not willing to claw back the jobkeeper money it gave to companies with greatly increased profits and other obscene handouts to the already wealthy which the tax payer can ill afford.

Independents are well worth voting for, they often have the last vote to change things.

Yep, me also. My wife passed away coming up to 4 years now. My fortnightly pension at the time was $800+ after my wife passed on dropped to $178. The asset test came into effect. Not all assets provide a continuance income. And some like a vehicle cost not provide.

Gough Whitlam | naa.gov.au

Whitlam was a great PM ...

MAKE IT CLEAR TO THIEVING POLITICIANS,

WE VOTE AND HAVE LONG MEMORIES.

"voting for an Independent is a wasted vote,"
No, it shows that we will not accept what they are doing - and, by changing the gov., some time in the future, our fed. gov. will do what the electors want.

It is so unfair - I am single, no kids, at 73 still work 4 days a week for a not for profit (not huge pay) and now they give me $8.92 a week towards my rent.  Soon I'll have to pay them to live here

My husband is still working and I am retired.  My part pension consists of $21 a week.  I had been diligently uploading my husband's payslip monthly. I received a letter from Centrelink to contact them as my payments could be cut off if I did not.  Whoopee!  To cut a long story short they denied having the payslips and wanted all the information again which I flatly denied to give her and of course she eventually found them in the system. Their software is stuffed.  They now have been overpaying me hundreds of dollars which I am not entitled to.  I have rang them on numerous occasions, with tears of frustration,  wrote a letter to Canberra and put in an online complaint asking them to stop the over payments and take their money back. Of course it is still unresolved.  As for reporting fortnightly the software does not allow me to.  It only accepts my information and I am unable to report my hubby's earnings on the app. This is how the overpayments are occurring.  Do you think they are listening?  I have put the money in a separate bank account waiting for them to wake up to their mistakes.

Fed up and frustrated

Yes Paige, sympathise with you completely, the Staff are always lovely but the system is so utterly broken!

Why bother going through all that stress for only $21 a week?

Is anyone else having difficulty reporting their spouses fortnightly income when only one of you is retired?

My heart goes out to your sad stories

But the one that really got to me was an 102year bed ridden lady who was threatened with loss of pension if she could not provide proof of her age.

Oh Suze! Unbelievable..who the heck can sort this disgraceful lack of compassion the System is doing to us! Is there no one out there who has some clout that can change this?

Geez not end to their cruelty.

Suze - I saw that story on the T.V. the other night. Absolutely disgraceful., but she still had a sense of

humour when she said "I'll have to go and get a job".  (102 and bedridden).

Thank goodness that I don't have a partner, and don't work.  This would be very frustrating indeed.

I went into Centrelink the other day and asked for assistance to fill in The Commonwealth Health Care Card I was told WE ARE NOT TRAINED TO DO THAT to me it sounded like a politician changing portfolios instead of talking about it vote them out because they make rules that we don't hear about until it suits them and don't forget a Public Servant is there to do what a government says not to help you

I sympathise with all of you that are having trouble with the C/Link -- I know quite a few that are had/having the same trouble -- it is disgrace the way they handle things and also how they seem to lose all the data that is sent to them and NEVER let people know where the hell they are up to with their pension.

I will not vote for Lab or Lib as they are the same different wings of the same bird!  All as crooked as each other -- but maybe THIS lot are about the worst I have seen!

As far as aged care goes well forget it as I have been waiting since 2018 and still nothing!!

My friend's husband got a letter 3 weeks after she died telling him she could get home care help now

So much for Morrison's all promises AGAIN and NO action

We are 67 & finished work 30 June. We had a truck & had to operate as a Coy due to employment even though hubby was a sole trader.  Had to pay thousands in workcover etc & we managed to survive but hubby had to give up as the body started giving up. Sold the truck before end of April began Coy de-registration & hubby worked casual until 30 June. Centrelink demanded separation certificate for casual work then began requesting all information not once, not twice - up to 3rd time at the moment just in slightly different ways & told us that this was the hold up. We originally began application for pension on 10 June. Don't have much super & always paid our way but now feel insulted that we don't even have any answers yet.  We have been told that we are not in financial hardship even though we have no money coming in, owe the ATO thousands$, have a mortgage etc & have very little super & we would need to use our super if  we need money.  What happens if one of us gets really sick who pays? & who pays for our food.  We are in the process of trying to sell our house but will have lots of bills to pay with that.  This Government does not care about the had-working person but they can double payments for COVID to dole bludgers etc.  Disgusted in the whole system - Shame on you.

I am afraid the Current Government seem to be incapable of including Governing for Seniors in their policies and decisions.

words like Ageist, cruel, lack of compassion, lack of respect for aged are all words used to describe old people's language towards Government .

Centrelink,Agedcare,NdIs rather than having reputations for being helpful have just the opposite and just lack Ministers who want to role up their sleeves and drive positive outcomes for the elderly.

The decision  on lack of choice for the COVID-19 jabs  for seniors is by itself very damaging to the Prime Minister.

However the Opposition does not seem to be offering policies of substance either.

As a carer who spends 12 hours a day as a volunteer in an Agedcare home i Can assure mrMr Morrison he is in real trouble at the next election in terms of people who would normally be his supporters.

Morrison will cut everything he can but make out he is pouring money into things -- he has cut medicare -- we were warned about this ages ago and the Libs said they were not touching it -- well they have!

You can sign the petition for cuts to medicare on link above

93,398 of 100,000 signatures have been signed.

The trouble is this cut started on the 1st of July 2021 --the cuts have already started and we were only told a week or so before!

Yes, but I'm afraid their is nothing we can do, we are at government mercy, Just don´t vote for any of them, you don't have to vote, just get name crossed off,  I did not vote last 3 times and will not vote ever again for any government that takes away my pension.

Yes but that won't get us anywhere, I was hoping that somebody/organisation was out there with a bit of clout, could champion those of us with the same problem and hopefully help, but it seems that there isn't anyone!!

Johnboy, not voting will do nothing you have to vote for independent or such so as they can fight against these scum,  just make sure that who you are voting for is NOT supporting thither party and see they have some pull to stop such things from happening
