From 2012-3 a choice of a standard work-expense deduction ($500) will be offered. This will increase to $1000 in 2013-14. This means many Australians (Government estimates 6.4 million) will no longer choose to use a tax agent to prepare their return. Government projects a saving of $192 for this number of workers.
