Should you consider changing away from an iPhone?

I was sent an interesting video this week from the YouTube account of tech expert Hugh Jeffreys in regards to the iPhone 12 and 13. In the video below, Mr Jeffreys displays how Apple has implemented new protocols in all recent versions of the iPhone to push 3rd party repairers out of the market, which essentially forces you to take all repairs back to an Apple shop!

What did you think of the video? Will you reconsider buying an iPhone as your next phone?

Apart from the reason to switch outlined above, I believe there are many Android phones which are better. I know people who have used iPhones will have to learn to use a new system, but it is not difficult and you will not regret changing.

Froggie, I've also seen and encountered people who gone the other way and are well pleased to be away from Android devices and settled into the Apple orchard.  Neither is clearly superior across all functions but as is well known, Apple are less likely to be hacked or hijacked by malicious apps from third party sources.

An iPhone Xr was my first venture into the Apple iPhone garden.  Due to a combination of relatively minor mechanical damages, it failed due to water ingress.  Having thoroughly enjoyed that phone it was only natural that I would advance to an iPhone 12.  Apart from a couple of software functions that are related to operator settings, I am very happy with it as a mobile telephone, a web browser, an email portal, still camera, video camera and SMS device.

In normal use, I do not expect it to need to be serviced by anyone.

Letting third party repairers into a premium product would be similar to taking a near new $80+k BMW/Mercedes/Audi/Lexus to your suburban backyard mechanic.  Even companies such as Mazda, Toyota and Honda spend tens of thousands of dollars in training dealer mechanics on the introduction of every new generation of vehicle.

All of the subsections of the iPhone as shown in the video are stand alone electronic devices in their own right with dedicated programed ICs carrying out their designed functions.

I could imagine that if this YouTuber had grown up in the era of mechanical clocks, the home would've been littered with dismantled ones as he sought to reinvent them. He now makes his money from the millions of views of his videos and sale of second hand (reassembled) devices.

So many phones to choose from, most very good ...

however I stick with iPhones because of their seamless compatibility with my MacBook Pro laptop.
