Seniors Week Activities in Willoughby

Willoughby City Council’s 2013 Seniors Week celebrations includes a program of more than 40 free or specially discounted events for seniors over a three week period - Wednesday 6 to Thursday 28 March.

 

This year’s Seniors Week theme is Live Life! with events and activities reflecting the celebration of life, achievements, relationships and activities of seniors in the community.

 

The highlight of the program will be the annual Seniors Variety Concert, held in the Civic Pavilion on The Concourse, 1pm - 3.30pm on Thursday 14 March.

 

Other events include fitness and health activities, art and crafts, open days and social lunches, concerts, exhibitions, cooking demonstrations and much more.

 

The Willoughby Seniors Week Program is sponsored by Willoughby City Council, Ageing, Disability and Home Care (ADHC) and supported by local community organisations and businesses.

Laughter is the best medicine! The founder of Laughter Yoga, Dr Madam Kataria advocates laughter as a way to boost the immune system, reduce stress levels, increase endorphins, and create a positive emotional state. Now you have the opportunity to experience Laughter Yoga with certified Laughter Yoga leader, Ms Agnes Yiu. Sessions will be offered in five different languages. Attendees should wear comfortable clothes.

The Willoughby Symphony presents its first program from the 2013 Symphonic Passages concert series – ‘A Night at the Ballet’. Celebrate the beauty of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty, the exhilaration of Gounod’s music from Faust, and the passion of Delibe’s Coppelia. Emerging conductor Daniel Carter joins the Symphony from Opera Victoria to conduct this fabulous evening of entertainment.

 

Pre-Concert Talk - Discover more about Symphonic Passages and the Willoughby Symphony at a fascinating pre concert talk, (6.10pm) in the Level 2 Foyer of the Concert Hall.

An annual highlight of Willoughby’s Seniors Week, the Willoughby Seniors Variety Concert celebrates you – our special seniors – who contribute so much to our community. Enjoy an afternoon of music, singing and entertainment from a variety of performers, including the celebrated Royal Australian Navy Concert Band. A delicious afternoon tea will follow the concert – providing a chance to mingle with friends, old and new. This event will sell out, so book early!

Willoughby Leisure Centre – Pursuing Eternal Youth

Learn how to stay fit, healthy and feel young at Willoughby Leisure Centre. Seniors will receive free entry into the Leisure Centre during the morning and can make use of the Health Club, 25 metre indoor swimming pool, spa and sauna. You can also join in group exercise classes, and seek advice from health professionals on fitness, nutrition and wellbeing at the Healthy Ageing seminar. Please bring a bottle of water and wear enclosed sports shoes and loose, breathable clothes.

11.30am - Gentle Exercise class

 

Bookings for group exercise classes and the Healthy Ageing seminar are essential.
