Seniors classified at 75+ for passports?!

We received an email that puzzled us from Carole, who recently applied for a passport and was told that you had to be 75 and over to be classified as a Senior to get a discount! Can you answer her question?

Hi All,
Can anyone tell me why a person is classed as a Senior at age of 65 for everything but Passports.

To receive a lower price for a passport as a Senior one has to be 75. - WHY

Regards
Carole

Good question maybe inquire at the relevant place?---Not sure where that would be though?

It's just a way, to let us know that the Aged pension will soon be raised to that age! We live longer, so just get on with it!

You might just be right there Bev

Even though I dont mind being Middleaged until 75 , does that mean that my 25year old child can travel on my Passport.

Knowing the Govt, the kids will need their own Passports by High School.

Wish someone would tell the TV News Reporters that "Elderly" means over 75.

They call people in their 50s "Elderly" what a terrible word.

Cheers

Charlee.

On the passport situation, I was told that 4 years ago and dismissed with a laugh and a letter to some half wit asking why 75. Im still waiting for a reply. Charlee kids of the future will leave hospital with an inserted electronic chip for GPS and banking information and a mobile phone and an ipod pinned to their nappies. Regarding news readers anyone older than them is elderly, sadly many people think we have spent our lives becoming idiots and having no opinions. How wrong they are.

After reading an advert in the paper about purchasing a laptop the terms being no deposit and 4 years to pay. I inquired as to what one had to be to qualify. I was told you had to have had a job for the last 3 months and an income of $20.000. So i specifically asked if a retired pensioner could get one and was told NO. So I wrote to the company JB Hi Fi explaining some facts. I pointed out that firstly I wouldnt have inquired had not been able to pay for it, also I had no intention of spreading a debt over 4 years and thirdly anyone who does have a job for the last 3 months will be gratified to hear from them for feeling confident that these people will still have jobs for the next four years in todays employmment enviroment.

I havent heard back yet and dont expect to but Il give them another week and then Il write to the equal opportunities board and see what their opinion of us seniors are.. Interesting eh.

Wessozzy--That is almost the same as happened to me --I think it was a Woollies offer--and when I read it --it stated that you had to be earning $20.000 per year--I wrote to them and never had a reply--I said it was discriminating --not that I wanted their darn offer but I just wanted to have my say. I also want to get in touch with Woollies head office as we get a petrol discount on the bill--but as we don't have a petrol station near her--the only one is about 70ks round trip--I reckon if we prove we live in the area--rates or such-- we should be able to get the reduction on our bill--like 4 cents off in the $1 or $1.20
