Rum Balls

1 packet Arnotts arrowroot biscuits (crumb in food processor).

250gms fruit medley. (Couldn't find any this year so not sure they make it anymore. Instead I used 200gms diced prunes and 50gms of diced dried apricots.)

2 tablespoons of cocoa.

250 gms chopped walnuts.

1 tin of condensed milk.

Rum to personal taste (I use oodles)

Mix all ingredients together, roll into balls and toss in desiccated coconut.

This year I also added hazelnut meal and almond meal because my mixture was too gooey because of all the extra rum I put in. The original recipe said 2 tablespoons of rum so if you put in extra you need to add more biscuit crumbs or nut meal to get the right consistency for rolling into balls.

Thank You ...the recipe looks delicious YUM!!!

quote Robi "Rum to personal taste (I use oodles)"

What if you leave out the biscuits, fruit medley, prunes & apricots, cocoa, walnuts & milk, coconut , hazelnut & almond and just have the rum ?

Ha ha. You can also enjoy the rum without the ingredients while you're making the balls :).

That looks great Robi. I am going to try it with Shredded Whetmeal biscuits and a lot of prunes.

Extra good Cocoa and lots of nuts. A real healthy treat. I think Bacardi would be o.k.?  We were given a bottle for Christmas and a bottle of Cherry Advocate. As we do not drink alcohol very often that is a good way to use up the Bacardi. :)

I think wheatmeal biscuits would be nice Phyl but not sure about the Bacardi. I never drink it so not familiar with the flavour of straight Bacardi. I have made them with brandy in the past which is nice but rum is better.

Not that I know much about drinks Robi; but Bacardi is rum :) Will give it a go anyway, as I

have  everything else.

Hello Robiconda, I hope no one minds my joining in. I like your recipe for rum balls and am so glad you ladies put up your recipes. Does anyone know how to make rum babas? I used to have those in England a long time ago, and earlier this year tried one at  a place in WA called Mondo Nougat in the Swan Valley. It was nice, but could be improved I think. Cheers Mari (Micha's wife)

I can't help with the recipe Mari but I am sure someone will know. :)

Hi Mari, it's good to see you joining in. Afraid I can't answer your question though. What are rum babas?

Google it Dinks

Mari - Recipe in the Food section.

I learnt my lesson no more recipes on the Forum itself, it's too hard to find later.

Rum Babas are similar to Sticky Date Pudding.

Just little cakes with Chantilly Cream on top with Rum in the mix.

And over the top if you are so inclined.

Mari there used to be a Patisserie in the Claremont/Cottesloe area with a French Chef/Baker their Rum Babas were great will try to find out if still there.

Thank you Phyl for answering. Robiconda some people don't like rum babas and find them too sweet, Micha does and our son, so I might learn how to make them. However Vivity if that Patisserie you mentioned does a good job, that might save me bothering! Thank you for that. Sandi, I've been looking through the Recipes section, so many lovely recipes. Would anyone know if most of them have been tried? I find with just taking a recipe off the internet, it's really pot luck as to how it turns out.

Cheers Mari

Micha, most of my recipes are home ones.  Lots handed down by my Mum and her Mum before her.

I will try a new recipe and if we like it I will include it in my book otherwise it goes in the garbage.

My recipes mostly come from my Mum and friends and their Mums.  I always feel that Mums know best when it comes to recipes.  Maybe it's the love and remembering that makes them so great.

I also makew things and then add to them to put my own special bit in for my kids.

I am at present doing all my recipes and putting them on disc so that the kids can have them forever.  I never realised just how many I had.

I was doing it for 3 but now sadly only have 2 to do.  Maybe the third one can go to my only grand daughter.
