Rock and Roll Hall of Famer dies, aged 72

Dusty Hill, the bass player from legendary rock band ZZ Top has died, aged 72.

Hill, who had recently suffered a hip injury, died in his sleep, according to a statement from bandmates Billy Gibbons and Frank Beard that they released on Instagram.

"We are saddened by the news today that our Compadre, Dusty Hill, has passed away in his sleep at home in Houston, TX,” it read.

"We, along with legions of ZZ Top fans around the world, will miss your steadfast presence, your good nature and enduring commitment to providing that monumental bottom to the 'Top'. We will forever be connected to that 'Blues Shuffle in C.' You will be missed greatly, amigo."

ZZ Top were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

I only ever saw ZZ Top live in concert once, but they were absolutely amazing performers and showmen.

Here's one of my favourite ZZ Top clips:

Have you ever seen ZZ Top in concert? When and where? What is your favourite ZZ Top song?

Never heard of Dusty Hill or the band ZZ Top

but RIP to Dusty who left us at a very young age of 72

.... thought we were past the 3 score and 10 .

you might not have heard of ZZ Top but you would have to be living on another planet to not have heard the riff from La Grange

Farside

I live in the dark ages of classical music ??

so strange, I had no idea about this and yet listened to ZZ Top all morning yesterday ... I loved this band as a kid. One of my cousins was massively onto them and, being a big influence on my early music tastes, ZZ Top rubbed off on me.

I love Planet of Women, Woke up with Wood and Sleeping Bag. So many great songs of their early albums, too. I'm going to put them on again now!

Vale Dusty.

Sad to lose Dusty. Saw them in the UK twice, can't remember when but I brought their original music with me, so all good.

RIP. Farewell to another great artist.
