Hi Leith. There are many of us due for retirement with mortgages hanging over our heads. It's scary and we know exactly how you feel. It's a shame that maybe we could get into a retirement village but the monthly costs would see us end up in a tent on a paddock. We would have no hope of paying over sometimes, $100 a week, plus living costs and try to run a little car. What do others do who are in similar circumstances? Stay as you are and hope you don't need a retirment village or a nursing home?
It would be lovely to have enough money not to have to worry.

Seggie.

Hi seggie

...

I may have said before that the fee structure and monthly maintenance costs that are imposed by Retirement Facilities are beyond the reach of most Seniors ...........They are unjust and not at all fair ...........one relises that they have shareholders to make money for but even the Church groups are not exempt from the same tactics and it all becomes too hard ...IMO

...

This is just my view because a lot of people are very hapily living in these places and for all sorts of reasons

...

Friends of ours sold ther OLD home that was in a good area but which needed major upgrade work and repair that they could not afford...........They bought into a Village and a brand new 2 bedroom home ....This cost them $ 200.000

less than what they received for their old place so they invested it

...

The interest received therefore pays for the maintenance fees.and they consider them selves to be well off ....they also have new friends ..a community area ..and instant medical help if needed

...

I do not know what centrelink have done about their pension payments and it could be that they are under the cap that applies ..................clay

Hi Clay, Seggie here.

We'd be lucky to get out of selling our small house and paying estate agent and solicitor's fees for $250,000. The homes in retirement villages we enquired about are from $250,000 upwards with $100 weekly fees. With the little we have in the bank that we used to think was OK, we couldn't afford to move. We would love to move into one. Unfortunately one of us is not well and what if we are left with just the one pension? We were born in the depression days therefore we know how to exist on little. No superannuation unfortunately. It must be wonderful not to have to worry about money and the future.

Hi seggie..............We are happy and in good health and we will stay in our home until dragged from it kicking and screaming............We have no wish to go to a Retirement Village and then live cheek by jowl with a lot of old folk some of whom would be a pain in the " B "..............mind you we are not too young in years ourselves but as the saying goes ....so far ...so good ..............Good luck with what ever you finally decide to do ............clay
