Rates, and so many extra costs!

I feel Council workers should be responsible for riding around
different days on different streets each week or month and cutting our
nature strips plus cut our edges back............
Our rates are going up and we pay for The Rubbish Bin.
Recycle Bin! and Garden Waste Bin. Plus we pay to go to the tip and pay
if we want anything large taken away.
Our Rates are big bikkies but we get very few crumbs for our $$$.
We do not own the nature strip and not allowed to put stones down or
concrete to stop having to cut it. We have concreted and put white stones all down so no grass in our front yard whatsoever for Peter to cut and as we are not allowed to water grass anyway we are happy with this. SO I say Council! please look after your own nature strips.

In Brisbane if you request it, the council will come and cut the grass on your footpath on a regular basis, you only have to ask. I get mine done about every three weeks in summer.

I regularly cut the grass out front on our nature strip ............its easy to do and makes the front look good ........clay

I have a huge corner block and so I have to mow the 2 strips and the council have never done it at all but they continue to put up the rates.

Nice to see you around Jacinta. How is your Dad going. Hope things are

all falling into place for you and life good. I do not think there is a service like

you speak of in Victoria. Thanks for the idea though and for interest I will

ask the Council about them doing their own land. Thank you. Will be interesting

to hear what they say.

I wonder why we are not also expected to fix the pot holes out the front. That would also

make the "place look good" and a lot safer. Same thing ??.

Of course Peter has cut "The Council nature strip forever also, and yes ours

always looks great when we have had rain to water it but the point is "What would the Council do if we none

of us mowed Council owned grass on a regular basis"?. No Nature Strip looks good

once it drys and goes brown and we dare not water grass here in Victoria.

We are not allowed to do anything

to it (no stones on it, or concrete or flowers and certainly no tree on their

land.

You have enough to do looking after your own home Jane without doing

Council work for them. There is a lady with a little kid living where we

drive past and her very small child mows the Council Nature Strip. What happens if that

around 8 year old cuts his foot off or runs the mower into an old person or anyone cannot

move quickly? If Peter could not mow the grass we would pay to have it done of course

but seems silly when we have concrete and white stones so we never use precious

water to water lawns and saving us the work of mowing but have to mow Council Grass.

We are off to spend the day out. Hope everyone enjoys this wonderful Thursday.

All the best

Maribyrnong Council in Melbourne's west has threatened an "elderly lady" with a $500 fine and contractors costs as she has plants growing through her fence, and according to Council they are causing obstruction to pedestrians.

More as a gesture, I think, than any actual intent she has sent Council a bill for $3000 for her costs of cutting their nature strip in the last 15 years.

The Councils reply was that " It was the residents' responsibility to cut grass and maintain the aesthetics of nature strips". So I presume that if in your opinion long grass was "aesthetically pleasing" it is up to you.
