Hi, i need help. We have a neighbour who feeds wild birds with Bread and wild bird seed, this has attracted Correlars, cockatoos, Indian Myners. i have contacted D.N.E, the local Council.  they say there is no Law againt feeding wild birds. and offer little or no action.

but under  Nuisence/ noise act 2008 there is a section . if you contact a Solitor. We choose not to do this yet[ very costly].

The problem with the birds is that they arrive in flocks of up to 30 or more they scwabble over food, this can begin at 6.30 am and start again at 7.pm in the evening. Some birds fly away with bread this dropped all over neighbour hood .

Some of the birds carry deseases which may effect other animals and Pet birds. Its about time the law is changed to include Indian mynhas, correllas, cockatoos as feral pests and prohibit the feeding of these birds in Suburban areas.

Some of these birds are very destructive. Due to a previous incident we do not comunicate with the neighbour. We are aged Pensioners and choose to live in what was a peaceful place. We have a plactic hawk to try and protect our Caravan and Sola panels. The birds seem to take little notice. We are becomming desperate.

I know your problem only too well and I have the same concern and the guy next door spends $ 30 a week ( he told me ) and we counted 94 grey doves alone come into an afternoons feeding frenzy ..........Not to count the sparrows and assorted others and they make a mess all over the place and will sit on the clothes line and crap on freshly washed items

What to do .........is the problem ...........clay

you could try writing them a letter in which you point out that they will inevitably either move out from where they're living or die in which case they're not helping the wild birds at all as young birds will become used to not having to look for food and not able to fend well for themselves (or offer to buy them a parrot of their own , lol. )

Kev

Just start feeding your own lot and you will feel better about it.

With all the heat and fire around these poor birds are probably hungry.

To get rid of the doves {pigeons} start feeding magpies, they guard their own territory and drive of intruders. plus hose them,

I have the problem with CATS here and the council has no rules about them either other than they have to be chipped--they are allowed to wander here day and night--and kill so much wild life and the owners don't care a hoot

I thought the Indian Myners were an introduced pest already. Is there a bounty on them? When I was a young fellah  I used to feed sparrows and then shoot them with my slingshot, preserve their heads in metho and when I got 80 I would take them to the local council office and get 3d per head. so I would get 1 Pound (20 Shillings) for about a week of after school effort.

Great pocket money back in those days and got me my prized Malvern Star semi racer bike.

If there is a bounty on them, here is an opportunity to make a bit of extra cash.

PS. I am still a good shot and very few local dogs stop to leave their "calling card" on our front lawn.

Have you spoken with the health dept in your state,?

Also A solicitor will take your case no charge if they think that your complaint is valid and they think that they can win the case..you need to find the appropiate solicitor or even ask legal aid for advice.

good luck

Any suggestions to keep cats out of the garden? A dog over the road was killed last week as there are a couple of cats belonging to the same Neighbour who does not keep his cats indoors. The cats sit opposite my front door so the dog goes bananas, the opposite Neighbours dog was teased by the cat too, slipped past the owner, when she was going out   Chased the cat and the dog was hit by a car which did not even stop. The cat was OK but blood from the dog everywhere and one very devastated owner.

Any suggestions?

Vivity that is so sad and all because of irisponsible cat owners--did any one see "Insight" on SBS last week it was all about cats and the amount of NATIVE wild life they destroy and the way we are heading we will not hvae nay wild life left.
