Private healthcare deduction scheme

Some suggestions seem so simple that they are often overlooked. About Seniors subscriber, Alf, has a clever solution to the problem of private healthcare for those on an Age Pension.

Hospital cover for pensioners
I think there should be a way of deducting private healthcare premiums through pension payments at a reduced rate. This would give pensioners a piece of mind but it should be voluntary. What do you think?

When I was in private health care it cost me a lot more in gap payments which on the pension most can not afford

True Jane...........

The Gap makes more Seniors and people who are battling

give up Private Health Care than even the hefty payments do.

One person being on the pension leaves the hospital not owing a cent

but those who struggle to pay for Private Health Coverage

are slugged hundreds of dollars, even thousands being the gap.

I have always considered this unfair but similar to the age pension.

Spend it all and then rely completely on the pension and people

are given far more than those who save all their lives

without holidays or even small luxuries to be kicked in the

teeth in many instances for being frugal and saving. Very little help at all.

We are still not too badly off here in Aussie. land I still say though.

All the best

Phyl.

I have part Super and part Centrelink pension. We are in the top table at Teachers' Health Union. We have peace of mind as they have selected hospitals where there is No gap. Unfortunately the same can't be said for the doctors, gardeners and other odd job folk who jump on the band wagon and send outlandish bills.

I assured the Social Worker who called after my heart surgery that it was just as well the by-passes were working well after I got home and received so many bills miles past the official M.B.F. rate.

Recently I entered the Gold Coast Public Hospital for relatively minor surgery. The quality of care was as good as if not better than i have had at some Private Hospitals. There were no bills what so ever.

I friend of mine had to go into Hospital for Gall bladder --had the highest cover so they put him in a private hospital---he is also on Kidney Dialyses (spelling) and would you believe they said they cold not do the dialyses for him--(he does it at home himself all the time) how crazy is that!
