Please tell me more! I've tried many creams, exercise and strict diet but nothing really works.

When you say strict diet, did you try eliminating wheat and reduced fats especially animal products? Go to Forksoverknives there are many stories of those on plant based diets that have overcome many diseases.

Be careful as Prednisone is for short term only - 7 days max.

I have it on hand for when my hip gets too much to take and I normally take it until the pain subsides to a bearable level - approx 3-5 days then I stop until the next round.

THANKS BRIDGIT,  i DO THE SAME, ONE 25 MG TABLET WORKS WONDERS FOR ALL MY JOINT  PAIN, i TAKE FOR TWO OR TREE DAYS THEN STOP.  i DONT KNOW JUST HOW LONG BEFORE THE BAD SIDE AFFECTS START BUT IM 69 AND THEY GREATLY IMPROVE MY QUALITY OF LIFE SO MUCH.

I read it has serious side affects...so only good for very short term use which probably is enough to get people over the " bad days" ??

Prednisolone is a corticosteroid  and you have to be very careful with it

All the pansy specialists at the hospital  advised me to order a wheel chair at my age   84 because I was nearly paralyzed ....... my skin doctor saw me on the street and said you have polymyalgia rheumatica ,she prescribed 6 mg a day  ,I  took one and 4 hrs later I did 60 pressups   ,I weaned myself of  in 6 months and fingers crossed

My wife and I have both used PainAway UltraPro cream, especially for lower back pain. It has worked well for us. Shop around for the best price

HI JIMY, I USE TABS FROM DOCTOR SCRIPT,  I KNOW THE SIDE AFFECTS BUT WHAT CAN ONE DO, WITH OUT THEM I JUST SIT ALL DAY IN PAIN.   thanks EVERY ONE.

johnboy,  may I ask what tablets the Dr gives you please?

They are called prednisolone PB, a small white tablet  they come in 1,5,10,25,and 50 mgs.so you can taper off down to just the amount you need. Yes they are not a good drug as far as side affects go but taken only when needed they are ok.As i said they are a wonder drug for my chronic fatigue. they give me such a lift, and take away lots of pain.  I was just wondering what other people thought of them. They are a steroid as you have said.for me they are best drug i have ever been given .cheers.

Thank you Johnboy, yes it is wonderful to get some relief from pain, but be aware that they can cause weakening of the bones, which can cause breaks.

I wish you well

"WHY YOU SHOULD NOT SUDDENLY STOP TAKING STEROIDS?

For steroid treatments lasting longer than a few days, it is VERY important not to miss a dose, and to only stop treatment under medical supervision. This is because after some days or weeks of taking steroids your body stops making enough of its own steroids to maintain important functions (such as blood pressure). A sudden withdrawal from medication may cause a sharp fall in blood pressure and affect blood sugar levels. You will need to - ‘taper’(gradually reduce) the dose to give your adrenal glands time to start making their own steroids again.

Generally, people will not need to ‘taper’ if they have taken steroids for less than three weeks, but you should always consult your IBD team before stopping treatment."

Mancunian - I have witnessed a death caused by sudden withdrawal of a steroid. It happens!
