Phyl's Healthy Pastry - Pizza Base

Phyl put this up in Just Chat

"I just cannot believe how easy it is to make healthy pastry and pizza bases just out of two ingredients and it is really nice.

Cup of full fat yoghurt and one cup of self raising flour and that's it.

Knead, roll,  cut to fit whatever you are making but need a floured board and rolling pin to stop it being sticky and put the dough in the fridge for around 1hr or even 1/2 hour before using it."

That has to be the best pastry recipe I've seen in a long while, and so it does not get lost in the chit chat - I thought it would be nice in the recipe section so we can easily locate it.

Well done Phyl

Well done Abby :) Thanks mate.

I am going to look into Chia flour and other flours and if no Self Raising will just add Baking Powder to it and if that turns out o.k. will be an innovation for us, along with as Sandi made me remember, I will get the Yogurt Maker out of the cupboard and get making that again.

I made an apricot instead of apple Strudel type of thing which we had with ice cream and it was really yummy and filling. Bit of raw sugar on top of  brushed eggwhite  top  of the pastry,  plus some slashes so easy.

Sausage rolls next thing so will look into the healthy flour first. The Pizza is fantastic using this easy peasy dough and I made one with heaps of things on it and er another chocolate one as we were feeling we wanted to be indulgent. and oh boy oh boy is that ever yummy lol.

.

What about giving us some ingredients for various toppings ?

I often use chia seeds in omelettes.

BTW

Aldi sells very nice Sweet Haven - Fruits of the Forest Strudel

much nicer than the apple one.

Abby,

Thank you for putting Phyl's pastry/pizza recipe here.  This is certainly where it should go.

I know that chia seeds are a 'super food' but do not know of ways to use them, except in drinks and over cereal.  Adding them to omelettes is a great idea.  Do they have any distinctive taste?

I have just brought my grand-daughters an electric pizza maker and we are going to try this recipe.

Does it have to be brought back to room temperature before going into the pizza maker?

Definitely going to try this. Thanks Phyl and thanks Abby for preserving it here so it won't get lost.

Twila you can add them to pancakes, scones, salads, cakes, biscuits. Put them in the batter you are using for fish.  Use them in desserts.

Probably also add them into stews or one pot dishes.

Thank you, Sandikay, for these great suggestions.  I'll definitely use them. :-)

I also like fairly basic topic on my pizza of Olive oil and garlic and would imagine that chia seeds would be very nice sprinkled on it.

I highlighted your request so Phyl or others that may have tried it can see it

Hope it works out for your Grandes. Twila, just straight into the hot oven no need to wait.

Remember floured board and roller and hands. :)

Crispy base??

Twilla stirred up my taste buds.

Had some yoghurt left over so  added some SR flour

I rolled mine out very thin under 0.5mm thickness as I like crispy base.

For topping I used cheese, Fresh tiny toms and brocolinni from the garden, mushrooms and Chia seeds.

It was YUM !!!

Thank you Phyl :)

Twilla what are the pizza ovens like ?

Abby,

I wish I could conjure up a picture for you.  They are much like all electric appliances, and on short legs.  They are round, about the same size as a normal pizza, the bottom has a stone plate which prevents over-cooking, the lid comes down over the pizza and cooks the top.

The make I got is a NEWWAVE Kitchen Appliances 'Just Pizza - The Pizza Maker'

I think Breville also have a Pizza Maker.

A friend who does a great deal of entertaining says they are wonderful as it only takes about 5 mins, or less,  to do up something savoury.

The Instruction booklet details styles of pizza bases - pizza mix or bread mix, pitta bread, pre-made base (fresh), pre-made base (frozen), frozen-topped pizza, calzone and also toasted sandwiches.

Thank you Twilla

So you bought some of these

I read that it cooks at 300C

Looks good - Just wondering if you would like to adopt me as one of your grand - daughters if you are being so generous :)

Abby,

Adopt you as one of my grand-daughters?  Anytime, Abby, anytime...

When do I get my Pizza Maker ???

Your loving Gold Digger :)

The blood pressure went through the roof after seeing that wonderful golden helmet with the bright light, only to find the gold digger is now after free pizza makers, where will it end?

$eth :)

I am only doing it for you as I know how much you love carrot pizzas

We will be able to have pizzas in the Gold Mine$

   Don't tell Twilla

Hey what are chia seeds? how do you use them,? Phyl's pizza looks good, my grand daughter makes me a stack of small plate size with various fillings and I eat one every night. I'd make them myself only it's much better eating someone elses good cooking.

Chia seeds are rich in vitamins: A, B, E and D. Chia seeds are the richest natural plant source of omega-3 fatty acids. They are 30% oil, of which 30% is omega 3; 40% is omega 6. They also have approximately two times the protein concentration and up to ten times the oil concentration of other grains, and are digestible without grinding.
Chia seeds also provide fibre (25 grams give you 6.9 grams of fibre) as well as calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, copper, iron, molybdenum, niacin, and zinc.Chia seeds are naturally gluten free, cholesterol free and low GI.

Chia seeds are ideal for enriching many different foods.

You can sprinkle them on your cereals or salads or put inside most of your bakinf dishes.

Seth :)

Almost as good as carrots Eh??

Do they come in red?

They sound very good, next time i'm in aldi's I will look for them, probably Phyl will have bought the lot by then.

Seth  cooking

I find this disgraceful, I wonder if I can sue?

Seth, Zapot ,Zapot and Topaz will handle your case for a very small fee. You can't miss our office as it has a very distinct logo on the entrance door.

Zapot and others, if you can guarrantee a win in this shocking case of portraying my excellant cooking as a fire hazard, I shall pay double, you have my word for it.

No worries Seth just sign here, you can trust me mate.

$eth

I am shocked - you told me you was a very good cook indeed no less than a Master Cheff

Thank goodness Zapot exposed your inaptitude  till now I thoght you were perfect

I am still waiting for you to do a review of Phyl's Pizza Pastry

Perhaps you and Zapot could go on MKR and then Cats would do a review for sure.

Phyl did not create this recipe,it's been around for quite a while on a recipe site...

Phyl found it and shared it and Abby put it in to recipes as "Phyls" so we would all know which one she was talking about. We often "share" things which we have found are good but no one claims them as their own. Do you have anything favourite to share Toria? Anything new to us we all welcome.

You are SO right Toria I did not "create" the recipe,  and I never said it was my creation.

I am lucky enough to be a "fully paid up" member of Simple Savings and a lovely member posted it,  but as Vivity kindly said   "we often share"
