pensions

the media is starting to talk about the May budget, and still not a word about the pensioners.

Its a bit soon and the media can only talk about the things that the Govt want to leak to them .................time will tell .............

Well, as expected not much for the pensioners. No guarantee for further bonuses and I am disappointed to see there was little or no discussion about the affect of the budget on pensioners/carers. I feel that we have been almost forgotten by the government as well as the media, and no pensioner groups were spoken to about their feelings about the buget. Very disappointing ...

Pensioners got nothing in lthe budget - we were already getting the bonus which can be taken away whenever the current govt wants - and you are right Victoria the media was not interested. Thousands of signatures on the petition sent to the Govt were ignored - obviously they thought we would just go back into our box and give up.

I think we probably will. even this page is more interested in Noelle Browne getting a well-paid government job as 'Ambassador to the Ageing" than the fact that once again even though we are begging for a rise in the weekly pension we were ignored once again.

According to this http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,23696871-29277,00.html , on news.com.au, we are supposed to 'keep the faith". Sadly, I won't be holding my breath....

I seriously believe that people have very strange priorities, and apparently the pensioners who have paid taxes for the last 40 - 50 years, as well as the carers who are saving the government millions by caring for people at home, mean abolutely nothing. The disabled pensioners don't even rate a mention.

There is something seriously wrong with society today, but hey, they will get old one day too. I hope people treat them as well as the aged are treated now. I am not in the aged pensioner bracket (I am 40 years old), but I am a carer, and there is no incentive for people to stay home to look after the disabled and aged. You live on a pittance, and are expected to be happy about getting the bonus, if the government feel like giving it to you. Can you imagine what would happen if all these people jacked up and said, sorry, can't do it any more? .. The government would know which way to jump, because there is no way they could cope.

There are comments made in the Forum about the pensioner benefits and the bonus and the utilities allowance

Some pensioners seem to be better off now ............it no doubt depends on our individual lifestyles and how we spend our money ..........One member only has $ 25 left for food .........or is it $ 20 .......just forget now ............

Have a look at the topics posted and get a better view of the situation
