Pension Rise?

WOW! I am convinced that the Gov is counting on the oldies to manage.
After all there is a generation, that managed to raise a family WITHOUT thousands of dollars in Bonus/Child Allowance.
They even managed to fight for their country AND still raise kids for the country. All without the handouts the kids of today expect as their right,

SO is it not logical that the GOV will expect that Generation to fade away without costing the GOV.
My cynical opinion is based on that Generation who were raising their kids BEFORE Super,BEFORE Maternity Bonus Payments etc.

It saddens me that the people who deserve the Rises in their Pension, are the very people that enabled this country to survive, because of their efforts.
PS I am not one of them, merely an observer.

Let's hope the Government realises a decent living should be the right for all people who have worked and payed taxes for near 50 years and not just the Politicians who maybe in office 10 years and then retire on a huge salary for life plus a car plus plus plus and able to earn as much as they want with no restrictions. This is not equality in any manner or form.

Go to your local shopping centre around lunch time on pension day and see all of the unmarried mothers meeting - the kids are running around screaming, most of them should be in school but no - Mum didn't get out of bed early enough to send them!! You are right about the Seniors knowing how to stretch a dollar as that was the way I was bought up no waste ie turn out the lights, don't waste hot water, change your clothes when you come in from school, put cardboard in your shoes if your father never had time to fix them or maybe he had run off with the woman down the road and Mum had to go out and clean to keep her six kids fed - no hand out from the Governments in those days - fight to survive or sink and drown!!

Maybe we need a few tough years to see who will survive and myabe the Country will only be left with the Oldies lol. who will have to go back to work and then retire at 95 plus.

hi helengit ,that's solid good advice .i see the single mums having more babies just to get the baby bonus. and still they want more money. like aged pensioners the mums', married or single will get $1,000 per child in the next few weeks. i come from old stock and was taught to manage on next to nothing. i am occassionaly called 'tight' with money but i never have to borrow from anyone .i may not have much in the way of stereo equipment nor do i smoke or drink or go to bingo ,night clubs etc but i am happy and i dont mind 'giving' a few dollars to help someone out when they're down on their luck. .at this time is the first time in my life that i have a few things to make life easy.i had to wait til i could afford them. i hope all our young people 'grow up' before we need them to lead us in he future.....suanne

I am convinced that the screaming kids in the Shopping centres are the Pollys of the Future. So they will get what they deserve.

Or they will all line up to be on Deal or no Deal.

It seems to be the same people on these shows, or maybe just a certain type.

I could be wrong, or maybe I am too cynical.

Blame the movie I just watched called "I am Legend" with Will Smith.

At present I am watching the birds in the trees and feeling the breeze on my face as I type this message.

Enjoy the Sunset people, it is going to be beautiful.

I could be wrong, or maybe I am too cynical.

Well I think that if you get to a certain age and NOT become cynical you are not a thinking person. So join the club ;)

Divide and Conquer -- Pollies love that while we are talking about single mums etc

we are not talking about the pension rise.

Good to see you Tessata. Your posts have been missed :)

I think you are probably right. People by sheer numbers have a much better impact.

Standing together before February should be the go but February may come and go and many still saying "it is not fair" if people receive just a "token" amount instead of the "right" amount needed to live and not just exist for many people.

right phyl -- we do have to stick together ALL pensioners.

While we keep on being ever so grateful for every bonus and handout the Gov. can use it to say "look what we gave you" - yeah right --out of the millions in taxes we have paid over the last fifty or so year. We have to keep fighting to get a --decent-- weekly allowance its the only way everyone can benefit and we can pay our bills without these little bonuses which they can take off us at any time.

Hi Talking about short time politicians who get the lot and are still able to earn all they want regardless. I am surprised that with the valuation of the Euro, if you get a small overseas pension that earns a few dollars more than usual, your not a politician so they cut your Australian pension accordingly. One rule for them and anothe rule for us. Makes one wonder what Democracy really is?

Maureena-Democracy is this, where we can vent our feelings without the worry of being prosecuted, we can write to the papers about the injustice of the politicians being able to earn what they like when they leave politics, get their super and still get more. Those of us on the widow allowance-note it is an allowance and not a pension- can only earn 31 dollars a week and then have the allowance cut if you have no earning credits-we come under the same rules as those on the unemployment benefit. I think all of us who put posts on these seniors websites should get together and have a street rally against the injustice that is meeted out to us. Most of us worked for years and we deserve better than what we are getting. For your benefit and knowledge the widow allowance for a person like me of 61 years of age and has been in receipt of this for a continuous period is the grand sum of $492 a FORTNIGHT. Not much and yet we are expected to survive on that- you know pay the mortgage, the bills and if you are lucky buy food. Oh just for further clarification if this computer and its internet link were not on loan to me i would not have a computer and internet link as I would not be able to afford it.
