Over Governed

Now a bit of a heavier subject.
With 2 Federal Houses, Upper and Lower, and the same with State Governments plus Local Governments, (Councils), have we got too many levels of Government for our population. Would cutting out State Governments and/or combining them to form Super Councils covering large areas of the States work?

Yes I believe we are over governed and think the State govt should carry the burden of Local govt.

I live in the 'Super' Council of Onkaparinga SA and have noted since it was formed that our services are not Super ,as discussed in another message. Sure it might have saved on some duplication, but costs have still risen and it just takes longer to get anything done.

I once contracted from an organisation doing home maintenance to assist the elderly stay in their own homes and one day, out of sheer boredom, I listed the array of departments between the Minister's office and the poor sod doing the actual work (me). It was staggering, all that duplication and paper shuffling by people more consumed by their egos and official sounding titles than producing anything of value. Constant meetings between office heads (that produced more confusion). So I guess it happens in all forms of government and the sheer waste of taxpayer dollars must be enormous.

In a word..........YES!!!!!!!!!!!

What really bugs me is depite having 5 politicians supposedly looking after my interests I still can't get a sensible answer from any of them.

Oh I agree Keandha. It astounds me when interviewers are asking questions that require a YES or NO answer (as this morning on Channel 2's The Insiders) how pollies of all parties waffle. I wish the reporter would interrupt them saying "Hey, all the electors want is a YES or NO answer you turkey".

I can only live in hope.
