Outlook Express hanging.

I am running Outlook Express and it frequently has trouble loading. I always have to use Ctrl-Alt-Delete to stop the hanging. The only way I know of fixing this is to shut the computer down, leave for awhile and start up the computer again. I have Windows XP & I would appreciate any advice for this problem. Thank you.

I get the same trouble for time to time--I am on 98se still--I thought that was the problem--maybe it is the server--I find I have to re boot as well--

Interesting that it is happening to others. I rang Bigpond and after removing a couple of things from the system the guy I spoke to said to change over to Firefox but on looking at reviews on Firefox I feel I might get into more trouble than I am already in. Any thoughts on Firefox from anyone?

I have never used Firefox--I think the servers just like to blame everyone but themselves--

I have to agree, keep looking, somebody might come up with a solution.

When was the last time you:

1 - Emptied your deleted email folder

2 - Compacted all folders

3 - De-fragmented your hard drive.

4 - Updated windowsXP with current patches from the Microsoft site.

How much RAM do you have ?

What other applications are you running when you use OE ?

I went through all those things with the guy from Bigpond and I defrag regularly. I do only have 750mb Ram though and I am not sure what applications are. Thanks for your input.

Applications (apps) are programs you are also using whilst running OE

Task Manager will tell you both hidden and open apps you are running

How much disk space do you have free? Defrag tells you this.

I use Outlook Express and never experienced any problems. It could be your server of computer speed. Very annoying when things take ages to load.

I usually only have Windows Explorer & OE running at the one time, except when an automatic update is running. The performance in Task Manager seems to be all over the place though. From 1% to 100% does this mean anything? I also have 76% space on my hard drive.

This was hapening to me also Valerie and son Tim discovered that a couple of other programmes were running in the background so to speak .............he deleted a whole heap of surplus stuff and its been good ever since ........

I have a similar problem with this forum site.

Frequently, I'll click on a topic to read all the comments, and it never finishes loading. Similarly, when I try to submit a reply. I close down the forum completely and come back later. Sometimes ok and others not. This is the only site where I have the problem.

Been having a think about this situation.

It is possible that you have some spyware on your system and it is trying to connect via the same port that OE is using and your firewall is blocking this attempt hence the hanging.

I suggest you run Spybot and Adaware to check your system.

I also use Comodo anti virus and firewall to help protect my system.
