The rectangular berg was spotted near the Larsen C ice shelf, and NASA experts believe it the sharp edges are evidence it may have recently broken off the shelf
It is getting a bit too close for comfort.
[reading some of the comments on this article, I am surprised some people still believe that not only the world but the solar system is flat!]
ESO's exquisitely sensitive GRAVITY instrument has added further evidence to the long-standing assumption that a supermassive black hole lurks in the centre of the Milky Way
World first footage reveals an enormous black hole is lurking at the centre of the Milky Way galaxy
Fish are forced to swim surrounded by plastic pollution such as plastic bags and wrappers
Celia - I was watching tele last night when they showed the Bondi Vet Dr. Chris saving some Seals that
had plastic around their necks, possibly been there for months and cutting into their skin. One had a plastic rope around it and after being released, swam out into the ocean and turned around, and I honestly believe
he was saying "Thank You". I kid you not.
Hi Hola.
I didn't see that, but there was a video of a guy on top of a whale in the news yesterday and he was trying to get a rope I think off of the poor creature.
I fear that this plastic horror will not stop in our lifetime and the dreadful things that it will do to these poor critters -- surely the manufacturers could see years ago what a pain plastic would be -- but it was the cheapest and we all know that the almighty $$$$ is all they care about
Yes and all the plastic that was being sold for Halloween. Not sure if you have 'GoneBazzar' in the east but it sure is full of Chinese plastic junk for Halloween.
Oh yes they go mad for darn Halloween here in the East too Celia -- another money making racket -- like fathers day/mothers day/ Xmas/Easter/valentines day etc
No way they will be able to rid the planet of plastic -- although I did read/see somewhere that they were making roads out of it --
Think it sad that Charles is made fun of, he was talking about polution of this planet years ago. At least he seems to have a thick skin.

We were only talking about this over lunch yesterday.
If the polar caps are melting and the tides are rising, the oceans are evaporating 60% more than scientist thought, what will happen?
Was reading another report during the week about the oceans evaporating the scientists were shocked that the evaporation rate was a lot higher than they first thought.
An interactive map (pictured) from Aalto University now allows people to track the areas where people live in water scarcity, water stress and water shortage
Yes, water is the new Gold -- and it makes me wonder how the hell the bloody Government is on track to bow to the likes of ADARNI mines and PROMISE them UNLIMITED water for 60 YEARS!?
Totally irresponsible. I think the issues have become too hard for most governments Plan B they just want to walk away from it and pick up their super at the end of the day.
Yes Celia thats all they are interested in --- but what puzzles me is they are stuffing the planet -- so where do they think they will live --- as well as their kids and grand Kids with all their corrupt $$$$$$$$$$
In the case of Adani, think it's political greed and totally misplaced IMO.
The whole project is so controversial.
Ocean floor is dissolving rapidly. In several regions, however, including Northern Atlantic and southern Oceans, the influx of carbon dioxide is more than the naturally occurring calcite can handle, causing it instead to dissolve and turn the ocean floor into a murky brown. Worst hit areas are shown in red

Interactive world map reveals how scarce resources could become as overpopulation and climate change destroy planet Earth
Yes or no? Who do we believe?
In the stratosphere, roughly seven to 25 miles above Earth's surface, the ozone layer acts like sunscreen, shielding the planet from potentially harmful ultraviolet radiation
It is inevitable that eventually there will be no “free range” wildlife , only farmed mammals and fish for human consumption
free animals in Africa, South America and Asia will disappear from poaching and humans encroaching on their habitat
what will be left is only animals in artificial parks for human entertainment or farmed for human consumption
I have long since stopped feeling sad about the issue as nothing is going to change that destiny
I’m just thankful I was able to grow up, live and work with incredible animals in their natural habitat
I think its wonderful Ms Celia
But such a shame they cannot roam freely as before, and being squeezed into ever decreasing areas along with all the other magnificient creatures of Africa
CRUISE CONTROL: Goldman Sachs says that up to 5,000 ships will be fitted with scrubbers, adding up to a total cost of up to £7.6million per ship https://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/news/article-6375829/Billions-pounds-poured-fitting-ships-controversial-scrubbers.html?ito=email_share_article-image-share
Always interested in your informative posts Celia and the cost of scrubbers is unbelievable these days. I can remember when this wasn't always so. You see I took a trip on a cruise ship many years ago thinking that I might meet some nice wholesome girls and all I met were scrubbers. They were wall to wall in ships those days and one was even installed in my bunk. They really worked well because they were so plain that they stopped any thought of pumping emissions into the air or anywhere else!. How things have changed for the better but at what cost?
Well I bet the BBC are unhappy.
Sir David, who has been at the BBC for more than 60 years, will narrate a blockbuster eight-part series called Our Planet for Netflix that premieres in April next year in more than 190 countries.
I am aware Bunnings has stopped selling certain systemic poisons last year for this reason. The poor little bees are having a hard time of it over the last few years, we certainly don't have many bees in our garden like we used to.
One plant that really encourages bees to your property is the large plant with tall big blue flowers, the bees love it.

The United Nations has warned that 40 percent of the planet's insect pollinators risk global extinction, which would have serious implications for food production and ecosystem health.
Fantastic photos here of underworld creatures.
