Omicron - fear factor

Covid-Omicron has arrived by stealth

And regardless of one’s status or wealth

For many it has caused panic to begin

Think positive – don’t let the “fear factor” win!

Despite the high vax rate in the Hills,

“Fear factor” deprived some of life’s thrills.

And so, they’d rather stay home

Isolated, in seclusion, alone.

Covid’s out there, along with colds and flu,

And how you live with them is up to you.

QR Code, sanitise, wear a mask –

For protection of all – that’s what they ask.

Rely on the facts, forget the “spin” –

And never let the “fear factor” win!

The wife and I both had Covid, probably Omicron, between Xmas and New Year. Both are double vaxed with AZ. My wife got a fever and flu like symptoms for two days while I got similar for four days with a terrible headache and an upset tummy. We both had altered sense of taste.

But neither of us thought about going to hospital as we were not sick enough for that. After the worst of the symptoms passed it took about two weeks to feel normal again as myself in particular remained constantly drowsy. We think from the Covid tests we had that we would have been infectious for about two weeks.

So if you are vaxed and generally fit and healthy our opinion is that Covid is nothing to be scared of. I am 72.

If you had loss of taste etc, then you had Delta.  Friend of mine also had it over Christmas.  He's just recently got his sense of taste back.

Both, my partner and I had it two weeks ago. We are not jabbed, experiencing the same symptoms as mentioned, but no loss of smell. One sleepless night due to intense headache and body ache, then quickly recovered.

We have so far avoided Covid. We are double jabbed and have also had a booster so we don't fear Omicron but are not going out of our way to attract it. Our GP has told us that his dealings with Omicron show that it is similar to a 'flu and all of his patients have avoided hospitalisation so he is hopeful that it isn't too severe for people without underlying health conditions. Sadly, the media and the opposition are reporting the worst aspects of Covid for their own purposes and this is the cause of many people panicking.

Funny how we all see things from our own perspective.  I see the opposite.  I see the media and the Government reporting the most favourable statistics, but yep, probably for their own purposes, or maybe, just maybe, they are trying to downplay it a bit so people won't panic.  Lately here, it's been all about the relatively small number of hospital admissions per day.  They barely mention the other two statistics, or if they do they tell us to consider the hospital one as the most important.

And I guess it makes sense, only around three and a half thousand people nationally have experienced rather more than mild symptoms. Unless of course one considers death to be a mild symptom.  All depends on one's own perspective I guess.  Personally, I'd consider it a pretty severe symptom, but I'm not a doctor so what would I know?

All those dead people might be better off anyway.  They might be really ecstatic now, happy clapping up there on their own little cloud.  If of course, they are the 'right' people.  It's all about perspective.
