New washing liquids

I had to buy some washing liquid the other day as I was getting low--I mostly buy the Dynamo--the other one used to be a large bottle with a handle--this new one is smaller
(they say because it is stronger ie double strength) ???? however it doesn't have a handle and is so very hard to hold and also is low on suds--(which I do NOT like) has anyone else found these new smaller bottles harder to handle--and are there others that also like to have suds?

Laundry detergent has been a rort for years - the powder type has "filler" added to "bulk it up" and the liquid types are often just powder dissolved in water. The new marketing ploy is to "concentrate" the product, but in effect, I suspect that you are simply getting less for your money. People often forget the product is "concentrated" or just use the usual amount out of habit.

AMWAY has good products which I believe are genuine "concentrates", but are pretty expensive and still, the temptation is to use more than the recommended amount.

I am getting REALLY cynical in my old age.........

I am getting REALLY cynical in my old age.........

KF--join the club--I think if you reach a certain age and do NOT become so--you have no brains ;)

I have heard the Amyway are good but never used--might Google it and see.

Boy just checked the Amyway site and you are right they are very dear--I would expect them to do the washing and hang it out and iron it for that price.

Here comes the cracked record again re Aldi :)

Er I buy Laundrite in a big 4 kilo box (lasts for ages) and gets our washing as clean as the most expensive Clothes Wash available!!!! and it costs a few dollars. I have always been very particular with my washing so it had to come up to scratch for me to buy it more than once, but I love it.....................................................:)

Did I ever mention the fact our life is just that bit better (maybe more than a bit) since we got an Aldi Store around the corner.

Life really is good.

Phyl.

Not having an Aldi store here---is a bit of a pest--does the one you use foam up Phyl?--I am afraid I don't like the ones that don't have any foam--and these new fangled ones don't have nay suds

I have always used Cold Power Liquidas you don't need hot water to get clothes clean (as they don't feel the cold funnily enough).

And they have also put it into rotten small bottles of concentrate too - that I cant hold either and I regret throwing away last bottle 2.5 litres with a handle so will scour the shops older ones to get some in old style bottle if possible as they stock and sell longer than say woolies or Coles. And put it in that for safety.

I only ever used half a cap for a full load anyway as like all manufacturers they exaggerate the amount to be used in order to sell more and that is not just being cynical but the truth

Use even less with this concentrate and I don't see if it lathers as I close the machine and leave it to do its stuff but it certainly gets out the toughest dirt on sheets used as covers that my dogs sleep on and they get dirty this wet weather and it comes out fine just put it on heavy duty wash.

BTW Cold power Liquid is good for cleaning spots off carpets too.

Also never use powders as this can leave streaks on clothes particularly black or dark materials.

Yes Val I always use cold water for washing--I was lucky enough to have saved one of those BIG bottles with the handle--I did email the company and told them that it was hard to handle without the handle--maybe if more of us do that they will change the container--Google find the phone number or the email address.

Sorry Jane. I did not see you were asking about liquid.

Also at Aldi I buy liquid for a couple of dollars for our darks. Both wash really well in cold water and both "suds up" well :)

Aldi are building all over the place so I do hope you get one close to you very soon.

How did you go with your new Appliance you were looking for?

Our Fridge is over 20 years old but working ok. albeit would like another to go with our updated kitchen. Do not feel justified to just at the moment.

We ae having such bad days and nights with everything flying all over the place if not tied down.

My fridge is still hanging in there and working fine except it still leaks under the crispers--I put absorbent cloths under them to save it leaking onto the floor--it is also a 1988 model--but I figure as long as it is doing its job--I will keep it.

Thanks for the update on the washing stuff--I don't think Aldi will be here any time soon :( but maybe next time I go to town or up to see my Son I will call into one there and have a look.

Older fridges use more power/energy. If it leaks, it's time to replace it. As for washing powder/liquid, you can buy washing soda, very cheap. As for foaming - why?

Bev I guess I like to see the foam--same as in hard water ( like in Brisbane) when soap doesn't foam--I never feel like it is doing the job--I know they say it does but I like to see the suds. I also never know if there is enough detergent in the water if it doesn't sud.

Our old fridge/freezer which cost heaps in 1980 and very large capacity tall as me and I'm just on 6ft - has started to leak every now and then in the left hand corner out from under the crisper too. Had it regassed once and a repair to the defrost in 1995 and then the repair man said - lucky for you I had a very old part - but if anything else goes - you will not be able to repair it as so old.

Still whilst it works - why worry - a bit more power used - well why worry when the cost of a new one is not having to be found. Friend of ours is still running one of the old square fridges and that works fine too.

Maybe like all else all this saves energy is a bit of a scam - making us all feel guilty for using more power.

Speaking of old fridges--my friends Father had one that they had bought way back when fridges 1st came out--it was STILL working fine when his Dad died 3 years ago--it had only ever had the seals replaced

Yes they built appliances to last in those days - today they build them to die as soon as the warranty period is up and a lot do sooner than then so they cant even get that right
