New public holiday long weekend revealed

The Queensland government this week revealed that its postponed long weekend for the Ekka festival will now be held on 29 October.

The government said the long weekend, which had to be delayed from its original date on 11 August because of COVID restrictions in place at the time, would pump $130 million into the economy.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the People’s Day would become People’s Long Weekend on Friday 29 October.

“Ekka is where the bush meets the city. This gives the city the chance to go to the bush, the beach or the rainforest,” the Premier said.

“By creating a long weekend in October, we’re giving thousands of Queenslanders a chance to explore their own state.

“Our tourism industry has done it tough this year. The delta variant has had an impact on our economy and with less support from the Morrison Government, many businesses are struggling more than ever.

“I’m urging Queenslanders to use the People’s Long Weekend to support local businesses and local jobs. Please holiday at home on October 29.”

Will you take advantage of the long weekend in Queensland by taking a trip to a different part of the state? Does this change of date suit you better this year?

Annastacia Dollarcheck,

Don't worry about the virus, just make sure the dollars are rolling in at the risk of health, the stupid admission that footbrawlers are important because they bring in money was an abomination to all normal Australians who think footbrawl is a waste or time especially when the country is in a major health problem.

Look at the way these no neck bottom feeders are treating the health advice of the governments,  not meeting in a crowd etc. The situation of the families, who were supposed to isolate, when at the hotels, meeting together and passing things between rooms in the public view, shows how much these morons believe in public health.

The wives and other family members have been infected with the stupid virus that is associated with Covid, because of mentality of the LCD of the human race, footbrawlers.

Get all the news of footbrawl of the media, this is a bad roll model for the younger generation.

It looks like the same with EKKA !!!!

100% agree with you Oxleigh, I hate catch and kill too and they sure have it right when they put their IQ numbers on their back too

Yes, you have it right about Annastacia Dollarcheck, too what a slime ball she is!

seems that all, that is important no matter what is the bloody footbrawl

Oh you lucky people in Qld!  Pallachuk is going to keep you safe FOREVER, even with 80% vaccination rate you will be locked up and if Qld is suffering now with the loss of tourist dollars its only going to get much worse thanks to tweedledum and tweedledee!.

Oh what rot ...

Queensland is doing very well at the moment compared to the worst states, for example today 23 August 2021. We ARE NOT in lockdown and after a drive this morning, everyone is out and about!!!

• NSW ... 818 new local cases, 586 in hospital, 3 deaths. Statewide lockdown.
• VIC ... 71 new local cases, 29 in hospital. Lockdown applies.
• ACT ... 16 new local cases. Lockdown applies.
• QLD ... 1 new local case, detected in home quarantine and in isolation for their entire infectious period. NO lockdown.

Easy to see which state is having fewer breakouts -- QLD

I am glad I am not in QLD, NSW.and Victoria. This lock down business is a bit hard to take from those States so it seems. The thickheads that wander the streets show little or no respect for anyone else except them selves. The me me me group, I'm all right jack, up yours, my only hope is that they don't want a hospital bed at the expense at those who have done the right thing and followed the rules. The ones who don't show little or nothing to anyone else.

Stay home and in time you may enjoy a place without lock down.

I have to agree to the above comments, the sad thing is those people that need and want to get back to work are shooting themselves in the foot by running around the streets complaining, if they had stayed put for three weeks they probably would be back at work this coming week.
