New drugs added to Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme
Australians suffering from a range of debilitating conditions including breast cancer and a rare inflammatory condition will soon be getting cheaper access to their much-needed medication.
Now listed on the PBS is antibody drug sacituzumab govitecan, used to treat breast cancer. It's estimated patients will save around $80,000 per course of treatment.
Also listed is budesonide, a drug used to treat the inflammatory condition eosinophilic oesophagitis (EoE). EoE causes difficulty swallowing and chest discomfort and affects around 2000 people Australia-wide.
EoE sufferers will go from paying $5000 per year for treatment, to around $42.50 per script, or $6.80 for concession card holders.
Are there any other drugs the government should list of the PBS?
