New coloured coin to mark Remembrance Day

Symbolic purple flowers and green leaves of rosemary adorn Australia’s newest circulating two dollar coin.

The special coins are a symbolic reminder to encourage people all around Australia to reflect on those who made the ultimate sacrifice and gave their lives during service.

Rosemary has traditionally been worn on Anzac Day and Remembrance Day as a way to commemorate those who have died in active service and other military operations.

Chief Executive of the Royal Australian Mint Ross MacDiarmid said the Mint had a long and proud history of marking special commemorative events with coinage playing a significant role in reaching many Australians with an important message.

“As we near the final year of the Anzac Centenary these coins will be a lasting memory so that we continue to reflect and remember for years to come,” said Mr MacDiarmid.

“For those who want to ensure they are able to get some of these coins straight away, a pack of five coins or a $15 collectible version of this coin is available for purchase from the Mint’s website.”

What do you think of the new coin? Do you like it?

They always have a big deal about -- Remembrance ---  and I would be all for it IF they learnt from it but they remember an go on with all the BS and start yet another war -- I am over it -- yes I remember those that gave they life and time to ave us but there is NO way I am going to be going to any great ceremony.

Those that run the world -- ie. BUSH/ Trump/ Aetc etc --most if not ALL,  have always managed to get out of joining the forces and doing THEIR time -- but they are very quick to send others.   I bet if THEY had to go and fight there would be NO wars.

If two countries decide to go to war, the leaders of the two countries should be thrown in a ring and told to fight to the death. That will eliminate almost all wars and limit the loss of life to only one person

Agreed Alky.  It would be the best thing that could happen, it will never happen though - not in my lifetime anyway.

Yes, Alky, I agree 100% with that there would be no wars with these gutless mongrels

Agree, history teaches us that just a few men made a decision to declare war, and millions died.  Beautiful coin, love the colours.

The new remembrance coin is beautiful…I am not a coin collector but have ordered three sachets for friends who are for Christmas presents..

I  wanted four but you are only allowed three per order so will have to get someone to order another one for me..

PS: Sorry to go off topic Ben..but the thread is no longer there on the World of the Book Exhibition..Thanks for the information.. the date coincides very nicely with the Melbourne Cup..looking forward to seeing it when I’m in Melbourne next week..

I like the coin too.

From Ben's topic: World of the Book explores the extraordinary history of writing, books and book design in Australia’s largest exhibition dedicated to books. Opening 10 November, World of the Book is located in the State Library of Victoria’s Dome Galleries.
