New and need guidance

Hi everyone, I hope all of you are doing great

It just sounds not so great saying sorry on the first message .. umm, I am really sorry if I am asking the wrong question on this message board
what I really like to know: what are the chances for a UK citizen going to Australia to live and work if he is over 50?

Thanks

Ahmed, from my personal experience with Immigration staff at Australian Embassies, I wouldnt even waste my breath asking them. If you have some money available, I would do some research on the internet or ask a visa agent there in England......they will no doubt sting you a few pound, but THEY are the ones who know all the little tricks and trade secrets that embassy staff wont tell you. If you dont have the finances to cover that (and I dont know how much it might cost you), try your luck on the internet with the Australian immigration people.

G'day Ahmed and welcome.

Kfchugo does the sponsorship deal still work with people wishing to migrate? If it does perhaps Ahmed has friends here that would fit the bill.

BFrank, I dont know about the sponsorship program, but I do know that there are different rules for different countries. I recently brought my wife here from Thailand and dealt first hand with our Immigration people. I found them extremely unhelpful and with every query I made, they simply referred me back to the website. They would not answer the simplest of questions nor offer advice on ANY matter.

I was saved from the beaurocratic nightmare by forking out money to a Bangkok Visa agent who knew all the shortcuts.

Yes Kfchugo my former wife was from the USA and dealings with Immigration were very touchy. Counter staff were abrasive and the chap who inherited our case after the first one went walkabout could hardly speak English. We became very guarded in our answers to questions, not wanting to p**s the man off for fear of him using the 'rejected' stamp

Sponsorship I think is an alternative if he doesn't have family here

From what I have gathered, if you have quite a large fortune and can afford to start a viable business, which will employ Australians, you might be in with a bit of a chance. If you're just some-one, over 50, without the money, you've got Buckley's.

Thanks folks for the responses,

Thanks kfchugo, B Frank, and BevG

My comments to your responses

“ ask a visa agent there in England ..” no problem if that needs paying a fee towards getting a sound advice

I am even prepared to visit Australia before I start taking concrete steps

“ ask the Australian immigration people ..”, yes I will as soon as I feel I have done some basic research

“ does the sponsorship deal still work with people wishing to migrate?” … I really have no idea what the sponsorship entails … I am pretty sure some website would have info .., I’ll get there when more is said about it

“ Sponsorship I think is an alternative if he doesn’t have family here ..”, no I have no one there .. I am married, my wife and son are UK citizens

“ if you have quite a large fortune and can afford to start a viable business, which will employ Australians” .., a sandwich shop ok or insignificant? .. any example, ideas, approx £$ ??

“ without the money, you’ve got Buckley’s” .. do I? .. who is, or what is Buckley?

Thanks for the feedback, and more if you can please

Thanks a lot!

Ahmed - if you have a degree in education and can teach Physics, you have a pretty good chance in Queensland. If you have a large private fortune and plan to start your own business, you will have a chance. Maybe if you are an accountant or otherwise professionally qualified, perhaps. If you have a trade, say in the building indusry, possibly.

However, in most areas of employment, 50 is way over the hill and you would not have much chance of gaining employment.

Saying that you have "Buckleys" means "not much hope for you".

The streets are not paved with gold in Australia any more, sorry.

Thanks MissJacinta for your response.

The LATEST

I phoned 2 of the agencies in UK that deal with immigration issues asking them for some ideas, and what they told me is clear but not so positive.

- they said because I am older than 45, the only way to settle in Australia ( or NZ ), is if you have £130,000.
