I have an Lg lcd 16months old, no problems so far, good picture, took awhile to understand all the buttons on the remote

Thanks I wonder if they will last as long as the old type--did you install it yourself ? and does it work fine with a video recorder ?

next door installed it for me lol, but i think a lot of shops will install free if you ask before buying -anything for a sale at moment i reckon.Yes I have a Sharp video recorder and no probs there it records just fine. and plays the dvd also

I will have to ask a few questions as not having bought one for ages --all new tech' some say LCD some say Plasma ?--and they do cost quite a bit of money.

Reading snippets from a Panasonic brochure who market both comparing LCD and Plasma--

Lifespan--If both are watched for the same duration the lifespan would be the same, about 60,000hours, about twice the lifespan of traditional TV

Power-- both use about the same

Brightness --LCD can look brighter in abnormally bright conditions (inside a store) but Plasma produce more beautiful images in ordinary room lighting. There's a disadvantage in the backlight illumination system of LCD because light leaking from the backlight makes black look greyish.

Screen burn --wont happen in normal use, only when on the rare condition that a high contrast image is continuously displayed for a very long time. TV station logos are now generally low contrast

From reading the rest it seems if the store is brightly lit Plasma can appear slightly hazy, LCD sharp and clear BUT in your living room under normal lighting Plasma is blacker, sharper images, vivid with natural colours.

Panasonic recommend LCD's for screens 32" and below and Plasma for the larger screens. LCD is comparatively slow and there can be some blurring during fast action scenes (sport, car racing etc). Plasma can be viewed from almost any angle, LCD image can drop by up to 70% when viewed at a 45deg angle.

Hope this helps. Ive made my decision.

Yes it looks like the Plasma is the way to go--now to raid the piggy bank

Yes I'd like one too. Apparently an independent survey found 69% of australian consumers preferred Plasma.

There is a website whychooseplasma.com.au but it doesnt seem to be working properly.

Yes it seems that if you want a larger TV over 40" it is better to go for Plasma--and I know that Plasma can be veiwed from any angle as well--I have looked up a few sites on Plasma V LCD--here they are if you are interested

My simple answer is:

Smaller - LCD for sure

Larger - Plasma

Just make sure your sitting quite a bit away from the plasma for a nice sharp clear image.

Also just with Plasma's, you can "burn" an imprint onto the screen, but this only happens if you leave a image on the screen for say, whole day, the chances you will pause something for that long is quite... impossible? but i guess it can happen. You will notice for example after changing the football to another channal , as you change a small imprint of the football scores box, which stays during the telecast in the same spot, will be burnt on for a small time (this is normal). Always disappears, but that is plasma for you.

Nothing to worry about in my eyes.

Just remember, when your trying to buy a TV, Your not looking to Buy a TV, their looking to sell you one, so get the best deal!

I bought a Panasonic LCD about a year ago and it has a swivel base ..........This is very handy and it can be turned to suit the viewer full on and will do so to 45 degrees

Thanks I ended up getting a 42" (106 cm) Plasma--Panasonic--will be delivered tomorrow
