Muslims Help Qld. Flood Victims

Our racist media usually gives negative messages about people of the Muslim faith. However, this time it will be difficult to criticise their generosity.

TEN cyclone shelters will be built in north Queensland after a $30 million donation from the Emirati state of Abu Dhabi. United Arab Emirates Minister of State Reem Al-Hashimy announced the donation while visiting Brisbane on Monday.
It was immediately matched by Premier Anna Bligh, who said the $60 million would be used for multi-purpose shelters along the north Queensland coast. She said the exact locations had yet to be finalised, but would likely include Cairns, Townsville, the Cassowary Coast, Proserpine/Airlie Beach, Mackay, Rockhampton and Weipa.
Ms Bligh said the gesture was an extremely generous and unsolicited gift.

THE Muslim Charitable Foundation (MCF) has donated several pallets of gyprock to help with the building recovery effort across Ipswich. Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale said enough gyprock to repair 50-60 flood damaged homes would soon make its way to property owners most in need.
“On behalf of the community I want to thank the MCF for making such a tremendous contribution to assisting flood-affected families throughout Ipswich and south east Queensland,” Cr Pisasale said.

Elderwoman, don't you ever sleep (Posted: 12 May 2011 02:33 AM)

;-)

Pot calling the kettle black.

I am often surprised at how many people fear muslims and feel that the religion is brutal or violent........ muslims are just like you and I. They are generally quiet, religious and peace loving people who just want a comfortable life to enjoy. This generous gift to Australia is a wonderful example of the true Muslim ethos.

The problem that we (and many other western countries) have are the "crazies" within the Muslim faith that misinterpret the Koran for their own violent ambitions. THEY want to turn the clockback by a thousand years or so.

Yes there are good and bad in all--most are good shame that the bad ones give the good a bad name

Fwed, touché!

I wholeheartedly agree there are good and bad in all religions, nationalities.

One problem I have with all immigrants is so many of them will not make the effort to learn english and I am not talking about some who may be in the fifites and older who by virtue of not getting out and about much therefore find it hard.

I know a lady from Poland who has been here for well over twenty five years, whose kids went to school here in Perth and her command of the english language is almost as bad as when I first met her.

When I lived in my previous house we had polish friends who at the time had been in Australia for more than forty years and could not speak english much.

Currently there are muslim families living in a street near me and when I have garage sales the mothers (who are only in their say mid forties) bring the kids with them to translate.

For whatever reason you come to live in another country I feel you should learn the language because that helps remove some of the negativity about you because it shows that you are trying to assimilate into the new culture and then there is less concentration on what religion you follow.

Considering what is done by so many fanatics in the name of Islam I do not blame people for being extremely suspicious and the whilst I know lots wont agree with me here, the actions of the ILLEGAL immigrants in the detention centres has a big influence on peoples opinions.

Anyway folks, have a good day, keep the discussions coming because that is how we keep in touch with not only our little bit of country but the rest of our country and also the rest of the world.

keep safe, keep talking, bye for now , am getting dressed and then heading off to my seniors

club.

It will be interesting to see what types of buildings this donation ends up being.

Hopefully it will be a multi purpose building such as a sports stadium or a school as a lot of the named areas might go 20 years without a cyclone.

We will have to wait and see.

Elderwoman,

Aren't you doing what you would criticise others for doing - typecasting by religion?

Wasn't the gift made by a country? After all, you would be the last to say that Judeo-Christians (Australia and the US) donated huge sums to Muslim countries. What about judeo-Christians building mosques in Afghanistan (Australian troops have done that under Howard and Gillard) and giving money, land and tax concessions for constructing mosques in Australia?

What about getting away from using the label of religion? That works both ways. The truth is that there are some who use religion and other covers to conceal and rationalise their foul ideologies and crimes against humanity. They should be 'outed' for that and pursued - as was Osama bin Liner (sorry for the nick, but he was a sad psychopathic nonentity who had a lot of inherited money he put to bad use).

I also take issue with your unwarranted accusation that the Australian media is 'racist'. Such generalising does no-one any good, allowing the very few who possibly could be chided, with the far greater number who are professional, authentic and try to report dispassionately. On the other hand there is the gutter media such as ACA that dumbs down reports and uses stereotyping in lieu of facts (which goes both ways!). But your generalising and stereotyping goes that way too. Godwin's Law apples to the reference to Hitler or Nazis in forums, but it can also apply to other foolish hyperbole, such as playing the racist card.

And apart from all that Islam is not a race it is a culture and religion combined with Law so never can assimilate into secular western society but as long as we get a small number that cannot take over the place we will be fine.

Sadly many think this is going to happen and the United Nations the cause of so much angst in the world predicts whites will be a minority race in Australia as it is already in the world. Which means anarchy approaches as most of the other races other than yellow cannot seem to have a civilised society as we see right now in the ME where they are killing their own citizens fro demanding democratic governance.

But warning signs have appeared and we are taking in far too many for the balance to remain secular and demands for Sharia law are on the rise.

When on taking citizenship they swear to abide by our Laws not Sharia. So imo demanding it is a cause for stripping it off them and asking them to go back to whence they came if not happy to abide by their oath and our law.

BigVal, the latest figures I could get from the Aust. Bureau of Statistics were for 2009, but I doubt if there are any large changes since then.

Only 1.5% of our population were born in countries of the Middle East or North Africa in 2009.

73.5% of our population were born in Australia in the same year.

People born in the United Kingdom were the largest group of overseas-born Australian residents (1.2 million persons at 30 June 2009) representing 5.4% of our population;

Second were those born in New Zealand (529,200), representing 2.4% of our population;

Third, China (351,000), representing 1.6% of our population;

Fourth, India (308,500), representing 1.4% of our population;

Fifth, Italy (219,300), representing 1% of our population.

I hope this calms your fears. We're not in danger of being out-bred by any of the immigrants who come here, either through immigration or asylum seeking......unless those poms and kiwis start having very large families!

Perhaps you, or another interested person, can find reliable figures for 2010?
