Thanks for the link Davey

Sounds like a great idea  will collect a few bottles to get ready for

the summer onslaught in the garden.

Put the yeast the sugar and the lukewarm water into the bottle trap.

Mix it well.

The mixture emits carbon dioxide which attract mosquitoes.

They thinks it's food in the bottle and once they flew in

they couldn't get out anymore!

Abby,

If you have any water laying around like in pots or their saucers, the mozzies will breed in them.

If you put a tablespoon of vegetable oil it kills off any larvae and stops them laying their eggs in the water.

If you have a rainwater tank 1/2 cup of vegetable oil will kill any larvae in the tank and stop them laying in there too.

The vegetable oil just sits on the surface of the water and does no harm to humans.

Back a few years when we had septic tanks they would put a cup of kerosene in them to stop the mozzies from breeding .... your suggestion sure would smelll a lot better.

Abby, they also used kerosene in water tanks.  Most people don't know about putting 1/2 cup vegetable oil on the top and if there's a lot of water tanks in the area they sure can  breed a lot of mozzies.

They also used to use kerosene sprayed on carrots to stop the weeds growing.  It's illegal to do it now.

No wonder carrots tasted like kerosene for years. Didn't matter how much you washed or peeled them, the flavour went right through them.

We always had our own home grown carrots ... kids always got the weeding job ... so our carrots were very nice :)

Dosen't anyone have compassion for the mozzies ?

Definitely not me, Gerry.

Gerry :)

If you shared some more of your blood with them

the poor things would not have to travel all this way South

Just where is your compassion ???

Rubbing the inside of a banana peel on a mosquito bite (or other bug bite) or on poison ivy will help keep it from itching and getting inflamed.

Thanks for the helful anti inflammatory banana tip

... have you tried it and does it work ?

You can buy spray cans of stuff to repel or kill mozzies at most supermarkets - seems simpler but might hurt the mozzies.

Cannot stand the smell of it.

Prefer to put some fabric softener on a scarf or walk close to somebody that attracts the mozzies ... one of my neighbours is good for that :)
