Most vaccinated country experiencing worst Covid-19 pandemic outbreak

The small island nation of Iceland has just 357,000 citizens and 86 per cent of those are fully vaccinated.

The government felt they had taken all relevant measures and beaten the pandemic in June to the point where they removed all social distancing, mask, and travel restrictions.

But just two months later, Iceland has reimposed all restrictions due to a Covid-19 Delta outbreak that is seriously straining the nation's health system, despite the significantly reduced rate of severe illness.

There were just two active cases of Covid-19 a month ago. That figure now stands at 1590 active cases.

What are your thoughts in relation to what this means for Australia? Will an 80 per cent and above vaccination rate in Australia be enough to open up or should it be higher?

Higher, with boosters to follow next year. Keep masks going. Fear it will mutate again, probably overseas.

Covid is likely to keep mutating and be with us in one form or another for a very long time.

At an 80% vaccination rate the country should reopen and restrictions should lift because nearly all of those infected will not get severely ill.

However some will and then there are the 20% unvaccinated so there will remain a level of serious illness to be dealt with.

We should prepare now to deal with that before reopening.

If people chose to not vaccinate without a medical reason then they know the risks involved on getting infected & becoming serious ill & even death are much higher. If they have a valid medical issue for not getting vaccinated then they are in a very small minority. They'll just have to be very vigilant where ever they go.

Religious grounds will not be a valid reason or excuse for not getting vaccinated. So they take the risk upon themselves & sometimes for younger family members. Rolling the dice as they say with their life, health & wellbeing.

Despite reaching 80% fully vaccinated we will probably still need masks, social distancing etc but without lockdowns. People will catch COVID but hopefully our hospital system will cope and the number of deaths will be restricted to the anti-vaxxers.

It will likely mutate again and we will again be in need of appropriately effective vaccines. This thing ain't going away and we will have to live with it, perhaps a bit like the flu. This might seem harsh but COVID might sort out our gross overpopulation problem.

My sentiments exactly Tom

In 2011, China put a case to the WHO about using a virus to sort out the world's population problem  The virus was especially virulent for over 65s and poorer people.  Needless to say it got public rejection, but anyones guess could be what happened behind closed doors.

The cynic in me looks at the COVID-19 virus and how the initial cohort most attacked was seniors and wonders: did the global power-brokers agree behind closed doors, to do a trial?  Did it maybe get out of hand?  Remember the WHO did not want to call it a global pandemic originally and still seems to be very supportive of China.

The truth is on it's way OzJames70. This was a planned event. Patents for the vaccine were applied for before the world even knew about it.

Get Australia 80% plus of the adult population vaccinated asap.

Only fully vaccinated and negative covid test 72 hours before check-in for travelers allowed back into Australia and no quarantine required. If unvaccinated then negative covid test 72 hours before check-in and mandatory 14 days quarantine upon arrival. If travelers are coming from a designated high risk areas then they will not be permitted to enter Australia.

And for the unvaccinated coming onto Australia, Australian nationals and permanent residence only. All tourists, workers, students etc MUST be fully vaccinated with a recognised vaccine which will rule out the current Chinese vaccines.

Why are we not using the instant tests that are being used in America,  the UK and Europe after all they were invented here in Australia.   I should say that they are not exactly instant but take between 15 to 20 minutes when here in Australia it can take a couple of days.

Exactly Fred

Unfortunately our Politicians and health care workers are stuck on the so called GOLD STANDARD which may have been effective against other variants but not Delta. We need to catch up with current times.

"But while case numbers in Iceland are at record levels, no deaths have been attributed to the most recent wave and hospitalisations remain low. "

Vaccination figures quoted in the media vary between 55% and 88%.

"According to the country’s Director General of the Ministry of Health Ásthildur Knútsdóttir, around 97% percent of those current infections include mild or no symptoms at all." Rueters

Get a grip people, and calm down.  Any one know what type of vaccine was used and the time between doses.

Any one know what type of vaccine was used and the time between doses.

Info from Iceland's Directorate of Health ...

AZ (12 weeks), Pfizer (3 weeks), Janssen (Johnson & Johnson single dose) and Moderna  (4 weeks) were the vaccines used.  Interested to know if any are working any better than others.

This is normal virus behaviour - the first wave is the most deadly, successive waves are more contagious but less deadly.  We shouldn't panic and go back to normal now, letting herd immunity take over.  There is no way we can keep this virus out of Australia, just like the previous SARS virus it will eventually  spread to every part of the world in a less and less deadly strain and allow people to get natural immunity.  This same news of increased infections but less deaths has just emerged from South Korea too, see the Asia Times website.  South Korea never had a hard lock down, but implemented strict social distancing only.

a little long but well worth listening to.

Doesn't anyone know how a virus works, it does not kill it's host, it may become more contagious but not deadly. Stop listening to all the so called "experts" on TV mainstream media and start reading the real data and evidence from the real experts. And besides this virus has not been isolated from any other virus to date. So no test is accurate. We cannot keep locking down people forever otherwise we might as well all live in North Korea.

then maybe you can explain to us what has really killed 4,337,580 people worldwide to date with many being quite healthy individuals with no underlying medical issues ????

How do you know they had no underlying issues? People die from many different things but mostly from heart attacks or disease. Just because someone was tested "positive" for a virus does not mean the virus killed them.

Mr Marx, according to the US CDC, approximately 93% of those who have had their Death Certificates marked to include Covid-19 as a significant cause of death, there are an average 2.5 other significant health conditions that could've contributed to their death.

Incognito, there is a report co-authored by one A Fauci where they assessed pathology samples from victims of the 1919 Spanish Flu pandemic which identified bacterial pathologies being present.  From this they drew the conclusion that the viral attack on the airways opened the path for a bacterial infection that medicine at they time was powerless to treat.

This reflects in why one suggested treatment regime included the early administration of anti-biotics.  This is a treatment that the media treated with contempt.

Thanks for that Couldabeen, the soldiers were living in mouldy wet trenches for weeks, that alone would make you sick, and people were hungry all over the world at the time. Makes you wonder if this whole virus thing now is part bacterial too? There are many treatments that have been suppressed which is sad for all those people who died and could have been saved.

Incognito, is there evidence of many life saving treatments being suppressed?

Yes, I must confess Incognito that I don't know. so unless an autopsy is performed on every death then we don't know if any or what % of any had underlying medical issues or not. So you don't know either. So go ahead and believe and post such conspiracy nonsense. I'll read and listen to qualified experts in the relevant fields.

Couldabeen, want to share the link as I would be most interested to read the full article.

Very interesting article Farside, I know that in China they have high incidences of Pneumonia and they have the same symptoms of covid, I wonder if people are getting checked for this? We never locked people up (down) for pneumonia, I know my mum got it once in hospital and she was not isolated.

No details of the vaccine used. (Acknowledge RnR above)

And was it administered correctly.

Some vaccines are less effective than others and would have a bearing on the situation.

Countries in these situations should reveal why they refuse to use proven anti inflammatory and anti viral drugs.

I have my suspicions, that the drug companies have included a condition that their product is the only treatment to be used in order to get supplies.

My thinking at the moment is - when we have enough vaccines to vaccinate 80% of the population, then something like 4 weeks notice should be given, and then open up with appropriate precautions like masks indoors for a time.

justme I would like to acknowledge RnR has written a reply to my Question. "Any one know what type of vaccine was used and the time between doses.

It seems pretty straightforward to me. No travel into the country, no travel out of the country. Definitely no international travel whatsoever and I don't believe travel between states should be allowed. Queensland residence stay in Queensland and holiday in Queensland, New South Wales the same, Victoria the same, eccetera. If you wish to be with your loved ones in another state or vice a versa, you need to make a decision, you move there and reside there until the threat of covid has being eliminated.  Sounds harsh, not as harsh as death. People need to toughen up, take responsibility for their actions and consider others. Jacka.

Not feasible for everyone to up and move, more people die from road crashes, are we going to stop driving too.

No worries, old boy, soon you will be confined to your little abode when all businesses and other social facilities refuse you entry if you are not jabbed, lol.  Those most of risk of dying are older males, don't say you weren't warned!

Best laugh I've had all week LMFAO. Are you living in wonderland Jacka. No travelling between states, really. Covid will never be eliminate, not in my life time or yours.

People are taking responsibility by being fully vaccinated.

Also, there's no public health benefit in stopping someone leaving Australia,

Dream on mate,

Jacka, the numbers released every day by the respective Premiers, Ministers for Health and Chief Health Officers often give information that they then go against.

For example, the people who are being instructed to get tested "urgently" are from the probably infected demograph.  In short, had had direct contact with people confirmed positive, those who may've had direct contact with them, or being in an area where a positive had recently been.

And yet the number of positives from testing tens of thousands of these probables was less than 0.02%.  Indicative of a low rate of transmission.

Of these, less than 10% required medical intervention.  A twist of policy saw more than one State place anyone who tested positive straight into hospital.  Looked good for their scare tactics.

Less than 10% of these passed away.  The death rate in Australia is 36 per million with an infection rate of 1,418 per million.  On global comparison, Australia sits at less than 168th.

Australia is not in as serious a situation as the media and the politicians would have us believe.

International trade continues and is essential for any eventual return to normality where we can walk into a shopping centre without having to check in on any smart phone app or wear a token mask.

Good comment Couldabeen, 99.8% of people recover quite easily from this virus even if they get it. I do not know anyone who has had it (or tested positive), no one is dying around here, but hearing so many getting a vax that does not even give you immunity to anything (manufacturers said this), and no proof it can lessen any effects if you do get it, how can they know who is the one who will get sick and end up in hospital? there is no way to guess this let alone know it for sure.

Incredible that anyone should make such a ridiculous comment.

How many people do you personally know who have been tested? Numbers???

Do your research before you start aimlessly tapping on your keyboard. People do not recover fully from the virus, they may not die, but the heart and lungs suffer...... especially young people.

Do not make up silly stories of things you know nothing about!

Incognito, "... no proof it can lessen any effects if you do get it", seriously! On what basis do you think the various public health agencies approved the vaccines?
