Spot on Beemee.  When you focus on money not people, as Morrison is doing, deaths from Covid19 become relatively meaningless - collateral damage, as the Armed Services say.  Guess whose in charge right now? A General, no less.  Until we achieve vaccination rates above 90% including children, extreme caution is required when talking about "opening up" and removing restrictions.  All Morrison cares about is being reelected in the general election which must be held before May next year, so the standover tactics with the States will appeal to certain sections of the community but not, I suspect to those in the most effected communities in NSW or to those States smart enough to continue to keep their populations free of Covid19.

Morrison ordered the wrong vaccine to start with, like our NBN, went for the cheaper option no doubt. Didn't bother about following up with Pfizer when he became aware, as we all did, of the associated problems with AZ and blood clots. Good enough for the oldies though. Botched the rollout and then passed the responsibility over to the Armed Services. Wouldn't listen to the states or the experts that medi-hotels weren't the best option for quarantine despite the fact that people like Lindsay Fox and Twiggy Forrest offered to set up and manage similar facilities to Howard Springs. In fact it was Twiggy Forrest who secured extra PPE for our frontline workers last year when they were in desperate need, not our PM. Now we find out that, or rather have it confirmed, that the Federal Government's Dept of Ag was largely to blame for the Ruby Princess debacle. He wouldn't even allow his top staffers to give evidence at the enquiry? A lot of people know why. Despite using the old fallback of 'look at the debt we inherited from Labor post GFC, last year they threw money to the wind without a decent plan in place, with JobKeeper and JobSeeker. Multi-million companies getting JK. Long-term unemployed young, fit people receiving JS. Now he wants to open those borders. Counting down to election, don't worry about how many will develop Covid and die, or long Covid. Don't worry about the burnt out of health workers trying to deal with the fallout. The man is a dolt.

Morrison is interpreting the Docherty Institute's modelling into easing the lockdown in a way that suits him and his political objective of re-election. He talks about 70-80% of eligible people having been fully vaccinated but refuses to include children under the age of 16 in that number. There is also a huge difference in actual numbers between 70% and 80% of the population but since he is always vague about things we can't expect to be precise on anything. He will continue to put his own political future front and foremost in his considerations.

The actual explanation given of the modelling is hedged by a number of condition, as academic do, in attempt to cover all bases. Slomo is picking the one that suits him and ignoring the rest and he is being supported by Gladys in this.

One of the criteria on opening up should be the number of cases that have not been tracked, traced and isolated or quarantined without having been out in the community spreading the virus. If that is not taken into account and the lockdowns and restrictions lifted then all hell can cut loose and our health system overwhelmed.  

Things might work out OK but I wouldn't bet on it but I always am inclined to the belief that it is better to be safe than sorry. Will Slomo be sorry? Not if he is re-elected he won't he will take that as God's work.

States want to maintain control over the hospitals and quarantine numbers at same time make sure they get re elected..Those who want  to blame only Morrison for any problems should look a bit further then their political bias nose .. No one has a road map for this , no other country is doing any better where you have a so called National Cabinet made up of 9 politicians all with their own agenda..what else did we expect.??

Scomo is not opening the country to infection, he has given clear understanding that following well founded scientifically valid modelling by the Doherty Institute that a 70 - 80% vaccination level is sufficient to confer herd immunity and allow opening of the major movement controls, and allow the thousands of businesses and wage earners to get on with saving their enterprises and providing for their families. But no, you would rather promote the untruth that you project in this article. You stand condemned.

They are getting their heads together to plan how to steal and control our super, how to put in place more roadblocks to stop people getting their entitled pensions and how to make us spend so we don't leave anything after our deaths, I bet they will end up having a way to make us die the day after we run out of money, it has started with working till 70 and dropping dead from exhaustion.

They will make us pay for any unused bedrooms in our house, by increasing rates and taxes, so we downsize at a big cost so their real estate mates can make millions.  No way, we vote, send a letter to all your local MP's.

When we get to that 70-80% why should the majority have to be stuck with no freedoms and no travel when the stupid 20 -30% won't get the jab why should the government care when the jabs are free,. we all have choices in life if you do not what the jabs then miss out on all the things we will be able to do when we get to those figures

Thank goodness the majority of Australians are able to think, and look at both sides of reality and so we have the election and excellent leaders like our PM. And it accounts for why we are seeing these excellent strategies and policies that will lead us to herd immunity in these dangerous times.  Australia has been well led, ever since the Rudd-Gillard-Rudd fiasco passed into the sands of time. And ALP have been in control for only a quarter of the years since 1945. Australian are are not stupid!

What seems to be overlooked is that sloppy Wuhan research into a risky topic has been ignored by the very experts Scomo has to rely upon to get us out of the mess. Facts..France built the Wuhan lab...USA provided funding for the research ,as acknowledged by the researchers in their published journal papers...Our CSIRO trained Wuhan researchers. None of these boffins ,except for Fauci, appears to have realised that Wuhan was playing with fire. So sloppy research appears to have triggered a tragedy not Scomo. Very easy to blame our pollies. How about our short sighted scientists obsessed with chasing journal recognition fessing up?
