More money for Plan B Booky and. Cats

How do we give Plan B Booky and Cats more money . The pension is not high enough to give our seniors a decent standard of living . It should be at least 30,000 a rise of fifty per cent ..

The age pension costs us currently about 40 Billion we need to find 20 Billion .

If we didn't have an interest bill of 15 billion a year we would be a long way there..

I think we should philosophically approach this by saying its a temporary problem . If we were to encourage more people to save for their own funding of old age we would eventually see the bill drop.
At the moment we tax savings for old age thereby reducing the amount available by 40/50 per cent . This is self defeating for the taxpayers .
Secondly the Super savings are paid by Employers shouldn't individuals also add say 5 per cent of their own money . These two measures would greatly increase the pool of money available .

Secondly we should build on what Scott Morrison has just done . By reducing access to the State pension by those who don't need it . He has achieved two things raised the pension to those who do need it by 15 dollars a week . And reduced our interest bill by 2.5 billion a year .
Good Start

There are other areas where we can save on middle class welfare and divert the money to our pensioners whose need is greater .

Free GP visits for those not on a health card should cease paying doctors a bonus to bulk bill those not on a health card should cease .

Family Tax credits should cease if families need income support it should only go to those in need say bring in to line with my proposed pension of 30,000 .

We should stop wasting money on alternative energies our pensioners are more important ..

YLC should be supporting these ideas to increase the Pension and couples should not get less .

How nice of you to think of others Pete, come shake the money tree

I think it's an interesting discussion and appropriate to the site ...

I intend to widened the discussion as I think welfare reform should be presented in a positive light . I have sent my post to Scott Morrison as a start ..

Agree it's an interesting discussion Pete, and was not being facetious with the picture. There isn't a money tree and we only have to see what's happening to Greece. Don't think for one moment their problem cn't become our problem too, we are very much like the Greeks in our outlook on life. Happy go lucky, wanting the laid back lifestyle. We believe in freedom, just like them, but over the years both of us have  sold out to globalisation, consumerism and multinationals.

The desire for the good life is as much a part of Australian thinking as it is in Greece and the world over. Our  sense of entitlement has been encouraged for too many years, just like them. Now they are paying the piper. If we are not careful we will be paying too. When we talk of tax evasion – well, the Greeks are learners compared to some of our multinationals.

The age of entitlement, a term overused, but very true, has to be over and ways of thinking must change, or Greece here we come.

The point I was trying to make is that we having been borrowing to a are extent to pay for current welfare bill. So we are left with a conundrum of a 15 Billion interest bill yet pensioners on the bread line .

I see no alternative to cutting spending as there is a limit to how much people will give up their wages in increase tax.

A more proactive and immediate approach might be finding ways they could earn some income. There are numerous sites on the internet that will pay for your ipinons, surveys etc. Its not huge income but some pay in cash or prizes, some offer free gifts or product samples and its something that can be done at home on your computer. Try googling "paid surveys/opinion poll" or similar questions.

The genuine sites are FREE so beware of any that ask you to pay a fee to register - you may need to set up a Paypal account to receive benefits but that is no big deal. I did this a few years ago but these days have no need of it.

KFC actually your post some time ago on middle class welfare and Geomacs post on singles carryIng an unfair burden of tax got me thinking ...

This is not a left or right issue and it would be a shame if we could not have a sensible discussion on this subject .

If we start out from the proposition that our old age pensioners do not get a living wage how do we increase it .Without adding to our interest bill .

I have never herd da mentuned members complain about penshuns an why cant you use ther proper names?.

All who earn above a threshold pay tax, why shud those at a certainb age not pay tax.

employes can contribte to own super.

yur comment re alterntive energy is wrong.

yur hole sugestshun id flawed/.

What is the point in taxpayers paying out and then claiming some back. The tax free threshold should be raised To whatever the level of pension is ..

PETE,    thanks for thinking of us,     we get by  without much hassle,   one thing i would like is if we could have a holiday somewhere at a VERY reasonable rate,    thats one thing we cant do,    have no hope of saving ,  as every penny of the pension is    spoken for,  have no hope of saving,     but we live allright,

Now that's something for Pete to do, put his money where is mouth is and send Cats on a holiday..

HY THE SUDDEN INTEREST IN PETE AND I  RAY.  ?         ITS OK TO SAY ALL THESE WAYS OF MAKING MONEY,      WAS IT YOU WHO SAI D SELLING AVON WOULD MAKE MONEY,         WELL ILL TELL YOU NOW ITS NOT,      I DO SELL AVON,      AND JUST GET BY NOT H AVING TO PUT MONEY INTO IT TO COVER COSTS,         I STILL DO IT AS ITS A WAY OF GETTING ME OUT OF THE HOUSE AND WALKING,     BUT DUE TO ARTHRITIS IN MY BACK AND SPINE I HAVE BECOME LIMITED IN THE AMOUT OF WALKING I CAN D O,       NOT ALWAYS AS EASY AS YOU MAY THINK,      I DO LIVE NEAR ALBERT PARK LAKE,     COULD     ALWAY    GO CAMP THERE FOR A WEEK I SUPPOSE,     LOL,

You and Pete are so cute Cats that's why I take an interest. BTW you can't sell the Avon, it's a river in the UK and they won't let you do that, besides, isn't water bad for cats???

Pete

Why not start crowd funding for them ?

What a superdupercalifragilistic idea Abby!!

Cats, I am in the same position as you, including the arthritis in the lower back stopping me taking walks. And every bit of my pension is spoken for this year due to a further sudden deterioration in my health. Suddenly I am shelling out $200 extra a month at least on needed health items etc. Eg. Cpap hire $80 a month. Other health equipment $70 a month, some meds not covered by pbs. Prescription meds and webster pack. GP and specialist gap. I have to put in airconditioning in one south facing room for the summer as I am heat intolerant etc etc etc etc

I think I‘ll keep a daily notebook on where the money goes. Budgeting tips recommend doing that if you want to be frugal.

Cats, how about a nice coach day trip for a holiday. Or use your free train vouchers. If you don‘t mind being in a 4 bed female dorm YHA Australia is for all ages now. I listened to this 60ish woman on the radio who said she took up youth hostelling after she retired. The two at  or 3 at Sydney Central are palatial, one even has a pool! There is one in the Rocks which is super luxe. All for about $30 a night.

Booky my proposal is to raise the pension to 30,000 . We just have to stop waste in other areas where the rich are getting govt handouts . And two don't let labor back in to create more debt,,

youre a bit confused pete. Liberals take from pensioners to help the wealthy - Labor usually do more for pensioners and that is fact.

Rubbish . Where have the liberals taken from the pensioners . They have raised the pension every six months . They have let the pensioners keep the compensation for the stupid Co2 tax and they are raising the base by 30 bucks ...

Labor will be in the same position as the Libs if they get back in.

Where is the money to come from to pay more out in pensions??  Can someone tell me please??

We already borrow $100 million a day and we have to pay it back with interest.

Don't people understand this??

The money to pay more out in pensions will come from getting the wealthy off the govt teat . Already started by cutting access to the pension by the better off and raising it for those who need it . By cutting the subsidy to doctors for bulk billing the wealthy.. Stopping double dipping of PPL to civil servants . Cutting green agencies . Cutting family benefits to the wealthy. . Much much more needs to be done Booky had some good ideas..,

Well, too much is being spent on useless jets, subs, and just announced yesterday new ships. Exorbitant sums of money for a small country. I reckon we could save at least $50 billion there, the ships alone are going to cost that much. Plus stop involvement in useless wars. France didn‘t go to Iraq so why did we have to. There were no weapons of mass destruction and topplieg the Saddam regime has led to the whole region being a no go zone now with Isis in control of large chunks of it.

I‘m sure there‘s a lot of waste and bad management going on.

Totally agree .  The money should go to our pensioners first. Then we should be setting up super so that the next generation is self funded ..
