Many Thanks.

Thank you all for the welcome and the positive advice. I will check out the U3A courses Jade and I do feel that the four hours will really test me bobagain but I'm hoping that "relaxed pace" means some discussion and maybe a coffee break. You have given me new hope PlanB. I haven't found the alarm yet but will look for it. I apologise for answering everyone in the one long message but I haven't worked how to add smaller replies under each answer. I must confess Phyl that I sneakily went out and bought a very Basic LP, prepaid Virgin phone at KMart because like you I really only want to have to use it in case the car breaks down or any other emergency. However I still carry the other one so my children can contact me as I don't want to hurt their feelings. They really think I'm beginning to master it. Maybe I'm kidding myself because they know me pretty well.

I don't have a mobile - my car broke down - I flagged down a friendly looking person and asked if they had a mobile and if they could phone the local NRMA for me. He did.

With respect Bev I think that you were lucky and if it was in the night time then you were doubly so

The roads are not as they were even a few years back and weirdos wander around looking for soft targets and I think that you should investigate the mobile system and plan to carry one

Joy and I each have a mobile and carry them...... even if out on a walk

I refuse to believe that most people are instriscaly bad. The other day I was out walking, was approached by some young people, all dressed in the "hoodies" and pants hanging down almost indecently. I offered a bright g'day and they were were very good and bright. We can fear, but in reality, there's not too much to fear. The good people always will outweigh the bad.

Yes thats a comforting thought Bev but mobile phones can be used for a variety of SAFETY reasons .........and I hope that life if gentle on you ..........clay

Clay, I rarely go out walking without my dog - my protector. I only ever go out in the daytime in my car. I reckon I'm fairly safe, even if I do flag down a passing motorist when my car breaks down. I've found most young people to be very helpful - even if they dress "funny" - look like something you'd never want to admit to as your own.

No worries ( sorry not meant to be a Pun Bev )..........stay happy and safe .........and have a wonderfull weekend.........clay
