LNP a disappointment?

Are LNP supporters as disappointed as I in Morrison's total lack in solving the many problems this country faces, since they were re-elected?

From sky rocketing cost of living, energy prices through the roof, drought stricken farmers being virtually ignored, no mention of water retention or building dams, the economy about to stall, Veteran's dire circumstances, over crowded cities, drastic cuts to immigration, homelessness and the insane Paris agreement to name but a few. I am sure readers can add to this list.

Personally I dont think there is ANY politician with the spine or intelligence to solve problems caused in the main by them, without thinking past the next election.

Swanning around the world meeting leaders with scores of photo opportunities for his retirement photo album is akin to fiddling while Rome burns, But I fear the alternative could be far worse

Getting on with the job. Well done Scott!

Well done, yes - at buggering up the country.

That was an interesting read. I agree Australians don’t need career politicians because they are so out of touch with ordinary lives.

I never vote Liberal, they ruin everything. Always have and always will. I am against Labor too now that Liberal Albanese is running the show.

Costello ruined the Franking Credits. Get rid of them but leave them with the current users. It’s not their fault.

adrianus, whilst the LNP (Loot n pillage) government are in power we will have plenty of unjust, unfair and down right shonky actions to focuse on.

I would hardly call the LNP “a disappointment.” Come on, one week of Parliament and tax cuts have been passed. The Opposition is in shambles, will they recover in order to make a comeback next election? Personally, I don’t think so. I believe Morrison will be up to the challenges ahead. Not surprising his push for tax cuts, after his stint as Treasurer,  this, I feel has made him more aware of the problems Aussies and businesses face on a daily basis.

By calling the Royal Commission into aged care shows he has resonated with older people (a good number voted for him). I think he’s on the right track, so might be a good idea to relax a little and see what happens in the coming months.

Well said Banjo and now the retirees can keep their hopes up. My pal Josh F is looking to lower the deeming rates.

Go LNP go

Oh no! What ever will the lefties on here have left to whinge about?

Ha ha, so funny!

He has been calling on God to make everyone love more. He loves himself. But what a joke from the man who put his arm around his PM and enacted the perfect role of Judas!

LNP have never been for the worker, the poor, etc.

Labor has lost confidence in the voters but hopefully not all of us and they need to stay true to the main value of fairness.

Greens are standing firm thank goodness.

Banjo, you forget those wonderful tax cuts will affect everyone with cutbacks to all services. ScoMo is busy being generous with welfare for the rich there won't be anything left for the poor.

Interesting topic this morning by Steve Price on 2Gb about our PM's captains pick to spend $700,000 on the old house where Bob Hawke was born and only lived there until he was 6 when the family moved to WA. Its off the beaten track in the SA country town of Tailem Bend, has been on the market for $290K for 2 years and is currently used as a Centrelink office.

As a Conservative I think this casts doubt on Morrisons judgement, is a scandalous waste of money and I wonder where his priorities lie when other former PM's homes have long since been demolished.

Imagine what $700,000 could do if spent on drought stricken farmers, or our Vets who are commiting suicide at an alarming rate, the homeless etc etc. The word 'disappointing' again comes to mind

Agree absolute waste of taxpayer money.

Morisson should buy it with his own money if he loves Hawke that much.

A very good investment in my opinion.

Bob Hawke was Labor's longest serving PM, we should honour his humble beginnings as we honour the Australian spirit to make something from nothing. I say turn the old place into a shrine as we have done with the house of Joseph Lyons'. Scott Morrison is doing all the right things so far.

All Morisson is doing is trying to get on the popularity slide with Hawke which was generated by media.

Hawke was nothing but a drunk and a womanizer and with Keating by his side they nearly sent Australia bankrupt ...imagine interest of 19 % on your mortgage these days.

Let's not judge the man on his faults alone, God knows we all have a few faults, that's what makes us ordinary old humans. Let's judge him on one single achievement, being elected Prime Minister and serving in that role longer than any other Labor PM.

Tamwin, I am not happy about Morrison giving corporate welfare in $Billions to farms in Orange. They are buying water from the Murray and selling it at a profit to snap up more land. Those farms are owned by overseas corporations.

The business of the 19% interest rates keeps on coming up and being directed at Hawke/keating. the fact is that interest rates were similar all over the world and it would stretching the imagination to think that Hawke/Keating had that influence on world finances.

Personally I hold Hawke/Keating responsible for much of the outrageous behaviour of the banks which would not have happened if CBA had been kept in public ownership. The CBA was in competition with all the other banks but acted as a brake on the behaviour we have seen since the CBAwas privatised.

The present government needs time to get their act together but the signs are not good. They will have the chance to show how good at managing money they really are but having carried through the tax cuts to those who don't need the money all those years down the track when no one knows what our economic circumstance will be was irresponsible. This is a price we will have to pay eventually for outrageous promises being made to secure re-election.  I suppose this bears out the old saying don't get between a politician and their chance of winning an election.

Tanwin, what happened to  ScoMo's $50m for Botany Bay memorial to Captain James Cook?

He is full of empty grandiose ideas.

Tanwin - Bob Hawke's old house is located in Bordertown (not Tailem Bend) on the main highway between Adelaide and Melbourne. Definately not "off the beaten track".

Suze, when Hawke and Keating got in that's when politics became dishonest.

The Hawke's Tax File Number and Keating's bank deregulations were the beginning to screwing the ordinary person.

Leaving politics aside Suze IF the Hawke family wanted to create a shrine to Bob perhaps they could pay for it out of the $14 Million they got from the sale of his harbourside mansion

As Peta Credlin said on her show today, where will it end, Rudd, Gillard, Abbott, Keating?, Howard, at least most of them lived in their homes while they were PM, and the upkeep could be quite costly too.

Tanwin, Misty,

Agree with both of you and Peta Credlin.

Actually, if there was anyone who'd make a fine leader or CEO it would be Peta Credlin.  She would be wasted in politics although she does have a real passion for it.

Tanwin, that's right.

Hawkie lived in Perth from age 9. We have just named our newest inner city school after him.

Twinned with somewhere in China?

Bob Hawke moved into this home in West Leederville/Perth in 1939 when he was just nine but I don’t think there are any plans to buy and renovate it.

A bit of trivia..when he was nine years old his mother made him sign a certificate promising to commit to lifelong abstinence from alcohol!

Surely he wasn't drinking at that age?, his dad was a minister wasn't he so I can't see him drinking either, wonder why his mum did that, didn't work anyway did it, if anything made him go the other way.

I was always at a loss (and still am!) to understand why Hawke's binge drinking and gambling were celebrated by the media.

But then, tobacco sales were increased where the men were into gambling and booze and the gambling and booze industries were big advertisers too.  The print and electronic media were all male and the men were obviously obliged to make references to the big three, gambling, booze and tobacco at every chance they got.  I notice that since gambling has been extended to sport the punting language is again popular with some media 'personalities'.

I do not believe that Australians are born gamblers and drunks.  However, that culture is marketed at every opportunity.  The media heavily markets its sponsors and the promotion of the booze and gambling culture that suits those industries is embedded in presentation and delivery which it shouldn't be.  INCLUDING on the public broadcaster, for example where racing language is employed such as referring to the public as 'punters' :(

LJ, I cant speak for the gambling or tobacco but I do understand the booze culture. When the blokes get together over a couple of ales its almost like seeing a therapist. In fact a very similar experience to women spending half a day at the Beauty spa. The atmosphere is relaxed and congenial. There is a certain je nais se quoi which embodies the male spirit of larrikinism. Also there was often a networking opportunity in the offering. I suppose this is why Bob Hawke and Albo have Beers named after them. I dont think Bill Shorten ever had a beer named after him?

HA HA HA HE HE HE!!! Suze, as funny as that is, there's the very frightening and sobering reminder that Labor still dont know why they lost the election. Labor claim they lost the election during the last week when it was revieled that Bill was not cutting it as a legendary boozer. The cameras could not quite catch that winning shot like they did with Scomo. Bill not only didnt have a beer carrying his name but he also didnt have a sexy, popular nick handle such as Hawkey, Scomo or Albo. Like Scomo, Albo also has his favourite footy team, the Rabbitohs.

Sophie, he loved his communion wine. Ha ha

He probably did Jackie! I think the signing of the certificate came about because at that time, there were some pretty naughty gangs in that area. Perhaps his mother was afraid he might get caught up with them.

He was a church goer though, and that's how he met Hazel, at a church fellowship meeting.

Sophie, Hazel was a lovely woman.

Adrianus there was probably a lot of reasons why Labor loost the election, Clive Palmer and his ads, the Coalition ads, " The Bill you can't afford , very  effective too, the scare campaign abiout Franking Credits, the so called Retiree's Tax by the Coalition, Negative Gearing and the Electric Car fiasco are just some of the reasons people didn't vote for them."

You can see in this photo that even though these men may not be capable of throwing down a yard glass in record time they can still enjoy the congenial male bonding sesh over a cold one.

How good is that?

Nothing wrong with a cold beer on a hot day as long as you know when to stop.

,,,and as long as you know how to hold the can, hahaha

That’s all good as long as it’s not on the job.

United at the Origin .... now onder the Labor people love Scomo

PR Firm Hill Douglas can rebrand Albanese too. It worked for ScoMo it will work for anyone.

Don'want to be picky or anything, but Scotty's got nicer teeth LOL

Reagan, yes buck teeth. Ha ha

As I approached the door of the polling station with a heavy heart, not knowing which path to take, I felt a light touch on my shoulder. I turned around and was blinded for a moment by the flash of a lightsabre and then I knew what I must do, so I did it with tears running down my face. Well done my Jedi friend.

"LNP a disappointment"? No - IT'S A TOTAL BLOODY DISASTER!

the day after he won the election the first thing Scomo did was fly back out to the drought affected farmers...something he had promised to do....they were very, very appreciative that he kept his promise to them and the day after the election...that says a lot to me!

tosay he has done nothing for the farmers is bloody ridiculous....this is what he has pledged...people should read a bit more!

"A $5 BILLION fund to guard Australian farmers against future droughts will be at the heart of the government’s plan to tackle barren conditions over the next decade.

The Future Drought Fund will help primary producers, non-government organisations and communities prepare for and respond to the impact of drought."

ardnher, how will $5 million be protection against future droughts? Money for water that does not exist is not helpful.

The money could well be spent for irrigation and flood control ... Just look at the Chinese system which they have used for centuries.
