Lightening your load

If you have a very big pot and want to lighten the load, cover the hole in the pot, for me usually a much used scourer (I glue mine down, so nothing escapes and it doesn't move.)

1.  Place a thick layer of Peat moss or cocobark in the bottom, it holds the water before it escapes.

2. Put a pile of corks (have to drink a lot to do this) or alternatively    a heap of polystyrene beads.

3. Fill the pot with dirt and then plant.

Some very good ideas Sandi

...especially one about the corks  LOL

My big pots do not get moved .. at least not by me these days

.... they go into their situ and get filled on the spot.

I also add water crystals in the bottom.

Wouldn't plugging the hole affect drainage Sandi

How on earth will you flush ?

Pete you obviously don't wash up. Scourers are used to clean pots and pans and are porous.

Not many bottles with corks these days Abby, by the time you finish the bottle you will realise that it didn't have a cork, so you need to drink another one.

For Pete :)

Tis sad news about the corks :(

I had a big night last night so I saved some for you.

Oh I see , so that's what a scourer is , must get the maid to show me ...

Oh! Thanks for the corks Gerry :)

Almost forgive you for eating that huge mango on your own.

Sandi :)

Scotch brite sounds like a good idea too as it would be less likely to clog up with sediment .

Thank you Gerry.  They must have come from deep down in your cellar as most wines these days have metal caps except for champagne.
