Let's get real

We have two sets of pensioners those that are self funded and those on a Taxpayers funded pension .

I would like to see YLC stand up for both sets and come up with some ideas on how we can give more money to both .
The self funded need more help in saving for their independence . We should not be taxing their savings so increasing the pot they have . So saving the taxpayers having to pay a pension .
The taxpayers funded pension is not high enough and we have too many living in poverty .
Where are the suggested cuts in Govt spending to fund these increases .
Let's have some suggestions from YLC . if they truly want to help the over 50s and not just try to flog us stuff .
Maybe then more of the 120, 000 readers might participate rather than be frustrated by the ABC/ Fairfax agenda presented on every editorial .

Quote " flog us"    - yep, some people need a flogging!!!!

Ray do you have any suggestions on how we can help our oldies have a decent retirement .

Pete./Ray...I need all the help I can get.. financially.

dere are 2 bits to a buget - incom an expenditur.

Less taxin meens less incom an higer pensions meens higer expenditur - don't work !

Pete just mised out on tresurers job.

120000 readers - mmmm , i count 15

No there are 120,000 readers only a few lefties participate

Yep Pete I have suggestions to help "oldies" like yourself - practise austerity, stop demanding more and more and more - or we end up like Greece and then there will be no pensions and we have this

Image result for are there food queues in greece?

queues waiting for a free food hand out as in Athens...

Ok to help those who need it like our pensioners . Who would you stop from demanding more and more,

Stop whining, here are some jobs for you to consider to supplement ya income:

Put your name down to be an election official. Between federal, state and local elections, there is at least one held most years.

School crossing supervisors work during the school term for a short period each day.

Minding pets and children can also be lucrative, and will keep you on your toes.

TV, movie and film extras are always required and pay a daily rate (only if you’re good looking and healthy).

If you’re a keen shopper, then perhaps you might consider mystery shopping. The amount you can earn depends on the assignment, but you may be testing out a hotel, buying goods or even eating in a restaurant.

Delivering catalogues and direct selling (such as Avon, you can even get ya make up for free!)) can also keep you busy and earn a few dollars.

Enter competitions and win things

Make money from your hobby (if you’ve got one)

Earn money tutoring (if you're eddycated in anything)

House sit

Rent out part of your house

If all fails, sell your body, if anyone wants it!

I'm the same age a Pete and find plenty to do just running this house.

A trip into town and return is almost 100 kms costing about $15 in fuel alone so most of you suggestions would be no good to me.

I don't know where Pete lives but I have made money locally by cleaning windows / gutters / mowing grass / selling home made jams and pickles / free range eggs / painting / repairs  and cleaning up vacant blocks. But I'm not lazy.

More ideas the merrier - see Pete, you don't have to go without, get moving!!!!

The conversation is not about me I am comfortable and busy . But about how do we assists those that want to save for there own retirement and to raise the current pension .

Where do we cut other wasteful spending so as to help the old without raising tax

Or incresing the debt?

Ray/Davey.... Was really interested in those jobs and was just about to ring and find out more..... When my eldest son informed me.. that I would have to get out of bed.

It's all that racing around in the Tour de France, tell Abby you need a rest..

Do you have anything of interest to add to the thread??

I did. read my 11.30 am post!

http://www.smh.com.au/money/planning/comfort-zone-not-best-place-to-be-20150709-gi2iec.html This is the best summary of all the devious changes made by this minister. The idea that all pensioners are leaners is disgusting to me. One of the great unmentionables is that the chances of getting any employmenmt after 55 are negligible - even the Department admits that. So it appears that between 55 and 65 we are to use all our money living so that when we get to 65 - 70 we wont have any so they can put us all into ta holes and forget about us.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how we can pay our retirees more ..Without increasing  tax

Yep, do what Davey did..

Which was what ?

Why should we pay more to the retirees ??

It would appear that most Pensioners do a lot better than the Self Funded Retirees.

Abbs it is a matter of helping those to save more for their own retirement so I think we shouldn't tax savings for retirement so increasing their pot ..

the current pensioners did not grow up in an age of forced savings so to me it's a generational thing and if we make it easier to save we will have less on a sTate pension in the future .

In the meantime I don't believe the pension is high enough or that a couple should get less than two singles ...

There is plenty of federal fat that could be cut, to free up a bit of money. While the USA has embarked on a steep military cost cutting exercise, Australia has decided to increase its defence spending.

Politicians of all parties should keep their hands of pensioners, retirees, seniors assets and incomes unless they are realling rolling in filthy lucre.

meebee if pollys stop usin hilicopters to go ta geelong da moni cood be used fer me penshuners

Pete

From family experience ... when both mum and dad were alive they managed OK on the pension. It was after dad passed away that mum was on the short side.

If you own your own house .. the rates, repairs and insurance all stay the same whether one or two people occupy it.

The pensioners that are living in government dwellings or subsidised rent are better off as they do not have the above expenditure.

As bookworm says the politicians should keep their hands off all the seniors entitlements ... they worked all their life, saved and now the Politicians are trying to rob them of it.

Abbs I don't see where the govt has any suggestion to touch those saving for their own retirement but is suggesting tightening access to the State pension and raising the pension by 30 bucks .

I would like to see us make it easier to save for your own pension by not taxing savings therefore increasing the funds available by 40 to 50 per cent ,,

thus saving future taxpayers our children a burden .

In regard to those on a pension today I would like to see it raised from 20,000 to 30,000 .

This would cost us 20 billion .

i don't want to see us increase tax or debt so I have many suggestions of cutting govt spending .

ABBY,    while its true that ministry f housing rents are subsidiesed.   with a couple,   like myself and husband,    we have to pay a rent each,    this is based on the market value of the place,      bewteewn us we pay $360.     so its not much different than public renting,    my son and wife rent a 3 bedroom home for the same amout,     they have air con in that,   we dont,      the plus side of public housing is that as long as you pay your rent and destroy the place,    you are there for life,    and dont have the problem of bieng kicked out if the landlord gets someone who will pay a higher rent,          SHOULD have said as long as you dont destroy the place,     by he time we pay electricity,   gas,    water,     and food there is nothing left ,      i am not complaining,     but just saying even public housing isnt that easy,
