The Colonial Era Gallery

This gallery covers the colonial era starting in 1511 with the Portuguese, followed by the Dutch and then the British and their exploitation of raw materials with the spice trade, tin mining, rubber and so on.

The gallery also records the Japanese occupation during World War Two.

We visited here in 2003, it is pretty bleak....it was mid summer and still very cold, wore leather gloves, hat, scarf and boots with my coat.  Glad I went. The tour guide said that tourists came in the Edwardian times and to get to the top they had to climb the cliff from their boats!

This trip has to have been the most interesting and most scenic of all our holidays, would love to go back to revisit.   It is well worth the effort to absorb the magnificence of Norway.

Have you seen these amazing hotels?

As well as swinging by for food, the nosey giants also have a reputation for poking their heads through the hotel doors and even peeking through the windows of guest's bedrooms  An 18ft giraffe has been spotted making the most of his natural assets by reaching up his long neck to grab snacks from the high window of an English manor

I would love to have the chance to stay here!

My wife and I stayed there for three nights. She grew up in South Africa and spent holidays in Kenya.

Oh how lovely Ben!

Our we allowed to have an insight of the stay there please?

It sounds a really lovely place to stay.

'twas our honeymoon destination. Could only afford three nights but by then I was fed up with the giraffes pushing their faces in my food.

That was a wonderful honeymoon Ben-Hur. Oh, to be young and carefree and in love as we were and still are.

Oh God these Jewish families keep mutiplying .

See what happens when you let foreigners in .

They bring their whole families

Too much barley beer plays havoc with little brains.

Thanks Sandi I have stayed there many times with no problems , I will interested to hear what happened .

Now fully read your article Sandi and see it happened in 2010 I didn't know and have stayed there since then . The General Manager is on my Linked in site but I don think I will raise it as. Am sure they are embarrassed enough .

These things do happen if the staff are not fully trained and you do expect better from a five star hotel .

Can't believe it's only three days until I see my Baby who is currently trudging around Snowdonia
