Kiwis don't want their criminals back
Jacinda Ardern is on her way to Australia and apparently plans to give Anthony Albanese a stern talking to about deporting Kiwis.
New Zealand nationals who have been convicted of a crime are regularly deported from Australia to NZ and NZ doesn’t like it. Probably the highest profile in recent times is AFL star Dustin Martin’s father who was deported in 2016 on “character grounds”.
In 2020 Ms Ardern told then-prime minister Scott Morrison: “Do not deport your people and your problems,” over the issue.
Well, it appears she wants to raise the topic again during a trip to Australia this week and as a fellow left-leaning politician is probably hoping to get a better hearing from Anthony Albanese.
Many of those deported have long ties in the country and quite often contribute to crime once they are returned to New Zealand.
What would be your solution? If they have family, including children, here do they deserve to stay?
