Keneally scraps CBD Metro plans
The New South Wales Government has dumped its $5 billion CBD Metro plan for Sydney.
New South Wales Premier Kristina Keneally announced her long-awaited $50 billion 10-year metropolitan transport blueprint at Sydney's Central station this morning.
The CBD Metro would have run from Central station to Rozelle in Sydney's inner-west.
The blueprint focuses on extending light rail through the city centre, reviving the North West Rail Link and increasing bus, train and ferry services.
Ms Keneally says construction companies and property owners that have lost money through the Metro project will be reimbursed for all reasonable costs, and says the planning and money spent has not been wasted.
"In fact the work we have done on CBD Metro has been very useful and it will continue to be so," she said.
"We do see metros as part of Sydney's future, we will continue a program of land acquisition and planning for Sydney's metro network."
New South Wales Opposition Leader Barry O'Farrell says the public will take the blueprint with a grain of salt, saying the Government has come up with an election plan rather than a transport plan.
"The public will judge this rotting, incompetent Labor Government on its record over the past 15 years that won't be washed away by yet another transport blueprint - one of 10 to be produced by this Government - none of which have ever been delivered."

No sympathy whatsoever for NSW. They obviously are quite happy to continue voting for a hopeless, incompetent , inept Labor govt.
As will probably SA too.
And no doubt will Victoria as well, in spite of transport, health and law and order all out of control.
