Just A Whinge

I have a whinge every now and again about parking at shopping centres, "Parents with Prams" is my bone of contention. These parking spots are so close to the front doors of the Shopping Centres that in some cases could even be closer than the disable spots.
The reason why I whinge about this........well I have a story........Some years ago, Christmas shopping, the parking area at this particular SC (and I'm sure it is the same at all SC across Aus) was packed, we had to park way up the back, (not a problem for us) but next to us pulled in a very elderly couple, they got out of the car and the lady could hardly walk, as we got closer to the centre there were the Mums putting their kids in the car next to the centre doors, I looked back at the elderly couple struggling to get to the Center let alone walking around it and I couldn't believe why these young folk had the luxury of being so close to the doors and here behind was this poor lady struggling to walk the distance.
Can someone explain to me why this should be, one would wonder why the closer bays weren't left there for elderly such as that poor couple that I felt so sorry for. I guess the younger ones are more frequent visitors therefore spend more money in the Centre,
The Mums are young, the kids are supposed to be in prams, they should be more able to walk those distances than some elderly people. I have never forgotten it and Hubby and my kids know how I feel about "Parents with Prams" parking spots.
I will say though, we have a small shopping centre in our area which has "elderly Parking" right outside the front door, I shop there regularly. At this point I will say though that I don't, and at this stage don't need to use these bays, I leave them for the people such as the ones that affected me all those years ago.
That's my whinge,

AND..... if this was a site for young mums, there would no doubt be posts about having too many "Disabled" parking spaces being used by people who are not really disabled. The fact is that there are various groups in the community who have special needs and shopping centres try to cater for those that they can. Personally, my whinge is for times like Christmas and Easter when the carparks are FULL....... except for the unused "disabled" or "Mums with prams" spaces. It seems a waste that NOBODY gets to use them when they are not required by those for whom they are reserved.

Deanne, I nearly started a whinge thread myself...lol...so I'm glad you did. My whinge is tailgaters. I would like to know how many accidents are the end result of tailgaters. It's especially dangerous on the freeways, and though lately trucks seem to have partly got the message, there are still some who are very intimidating and even toot if you are in their way, but sitting at the speed limit.

In cars, I've noticed around the local streets, young drivers and especially girls are the worst offenders.

And the people who have finished their shopping and leave the trolley in a parking bay - too lazy to wheel it to an alloted spot for trolleys - grrr

I think many people see older people walking quite well and

using a disabled spot BUT maybe there are things wrong with

their health we cannot see of course. A woman said to me once

age alone can get a person a sticker but I have no idea if this is

true and yes if the person is really elderly they should park close

...

I would REALLY require one to use one, as I have seen the whispering

goes on when what looks like able bodies jump out and put their

sticker on the dash.

..

We park a long way away from the front of the shopping centre so

we get a good walk in lol and also to TRY and save the car from

people with no respect with their shopping trollys for our car :(

and also Mums with the pram needing to go in the car and the toddler

difficult for them of course) but a few have no respect for the car next to them

and open the door far wider than they really need to and the kids do this also.

...

Life goes on regardless hey?

All the best

Phyl.

Well said Deanna and fwed!~

My days of whingeing over car parking have gone,

I have a more serious whinge.

I received a notice from 'Aldis' that they have on sale,

Of all things "bamboo underpants for men!!

Have not men suffered for so long?

Why do they harass us men?

Car parking, remember they had all about it on 60 minutes

where if you wait in a full aisle at a S.M. for a short time,

less than ten minutes someone will leave giving you a space.

There is an impression abroad that all vehicles should be travelling at or above the speed limit at all times. Truckers also believe that should apply to the left lane.

Trucks have slowed on the freeways in Qld since Anna Bligh's budget required that radar units and cops should do more revenue raising. There are so many unmarked police cars on the M1 that they must end up booking one another. Bugger all money for the Treasury in drug arrests or sorting out the low life involved in white collar crime.

To get a disability pass requires having a medical condition diagnosed by your gp ,which is submitted to intense scrutiny before being granted ,anyone lending their pass is likely to be heavily penalised and lose their pass permanently,so I suspect the people whispering may have perhaps a forged one as someone with a genuine pass and a genuine need would not risk losing this as it is so necesary for their wellbeing. I know old aged pensioners that would qualify for a pass but refuse to apply cause dont want to be seen as disabled even though they are gasping for breathe after walking 10 feet.I agree with you Phyl re one does not know what is wrong with a person who has a pass but looks as if nothing wrong, these people could have dislocating bones when they walk long distances or luekemia or bone cancer or lung disease or conditions that one cant see but without the pass these people are unable to go shop or visit dr etc, the paltry few parking spaces allotted fo the disabled should be allowed to be empty in case they are required by the disabled. I think parents with prams should be away from the doors of the shops which are high trafic areas and in a quieter designated area where it is safer for children and toddlers. In Tas at my local shopping centre ther is senior parking spots alongside disabled parking and if you have a senior pass you can park ther freely.wobbly.

Well said Deanna and fwed!~

Welcome back to the forum josijohns, haven't seen you on here for some time.

My pet hate Is people standing outside buildings on the footpaths smoking, they are not allowed to smoke at work anymore so they stand just outside the building the smoke comes in the door anywayso we still have to breath it regardless, I also think people who shoplift from charity shops are at the bottom of the barrel, but it happens almost every day .wobbly

Wobbly, airports are one of the worst for that, you almost have to cut a path through the smoke to get in. I suffer from asthma and cigarette smoke is a bad trigger. I have to hold my breath when going through places like that .

You are right kfchugo, there would be an uproar if this was a forum for the group that I have just whinged about, however, I don't blame the parents with prams, they are not the ones in the firing line, they have parking allocated to them, why not use them. I have been with my daughter and daughter in law many times and they have parked there. It is the SCs themselves that are not catering for the elderly, I'm assuming, (and it is only an assumption) that they are looking after the younger ones as they have, or are deemed to have, the money to spend where as the majority of the elderly are presumed to spend less.

I went to a shopping center the other day where we had a lot of spare bays for "parents with prams" and we were searching like mad to find a spot, so know what you mean there.

Deanne, I nearly started a whinge thread myself...lol...so I'm glad you did. My whinge is tailgaters. I would like to know how many accidents are the end result of tailgaters.

I can assure you there are a lot of accidents caused through tailgating, fatalities as well, unfortunately the drivers think by tailgating and being so close you will speed up but that in itself causes accidents. When I was young and single I use to travel down a main highway for 200 miles to visit my Parents, back in those days it was common for the trucks to get on your tail, I was not a slow driver so they were really speeding, I would touch the break pedal ever so lightly just enough to put the brake lights on, use to scare them back then but not now.

And the people who have finished their shopping and leave the trolley in a parking bay - too lazy to wheel it to an alloted spot for trolleys - grrr

Arrh fwed, yes, yes, yes that is a big one, especially when the parking bay is the last one left. Grrrrrr, lazy blighters
