Long service leave question

Hubby has 5 months long service leave. Should this be used up before retirement.  If he takes his long service at retirement will that affect his pension?

If he takes his LS leave at retirement then the money he receives will be added to his assets therefore may affect his final pension amount.

If he cashes it in he will lose a larger proportion in tax, but if he takes the leave, he will also receive the additional five months of superannuation contributions from his employer whilst on leave. Its a no brainer.
