Is this pension reduction justice?

My wife gets out of bed at 5.30am, four days a week to go to work. Because of covid her hours have been reduced. She nets about $295 a week. She pays tax, and still they reduce my married rate of pension. Such a fair and just government.

Why don't you go to chat to a Tax Accountant?

That wont do any good, she has to pay tax, but government double dip, she pays tax and then they still reduce my pension,   thing is the threshold is to low.  once she earns just over $300 a fortnight they start cutting. its perthetic.

Get divorced and buy adjoning appartments might solve your problem ???

.... then you would get a full single pension.

The other thought I had was what if your wife contributed towards a super scheme ???

Im not the only one Suze, thousands of people like us out there,  Your saying that we all need to get divorced to get a fair and just go in Australia.  All governments are determent to keep people on low wages down,If you earn a little more than they think you should then they simply take it off you.  when your down they keep you down.  I dont want a divorce Suze, I just want a fair go.  If i was single i could live on the pension easily. But just because you are married and have one partner still out working your F....d

Is it worth going to work at that time of morning to get a small wage you are taxed on?

Wouldn't it be better to give up work and get a Pension?   If the Federal Government want to tax people on such a small wage they are not encouraging them to work.

He already gets a pension. He really just wants more for no contribution, as do many.
A house owning O.A. couple get a handout of over $36,000.00 per year. That seems well and truly "a fair go."
Not enough information here. You have your wife work to help support you?
I agree that the system stinks.  The asset test level is set far too low.

Whilst there are few details as to assets, etc, the aged pension (66+) is based on your 'worst' outcome from the income and assets test.

From the income info given, it would appear that the income test may not have exceeded (when income exceeds $320 plus '$300 from personal exertion' a fortnight, the pension reduces by $0.50 for every additional dollar earned).  On the other hand, if assets value have increased, that the pension received may have decreased,

Vote them out , but the other mob are not much better

On that topic did you read the article from the USA where they calculated from many people over there they want to create new political parties?

I put it up on one of the threads two days ago.

The pension should be the same for everyone with no means test. A long time ago that's pretty much how it was.

As our government's (both sides) got meaner all sorts of measures were introduced to hurt pensioners.

Only possible electoral way out is to carefully chose who you vote for and to put Labor and the Coalition in second last and last place respectively on your ballot paper.

With the recent pension increase, mine went down by $10 instead of up. I don't earn anything outside, and I am below the assets test for a single guy. I received no explanation from Centrelink. Several of my friends also had the similar experience.  Has anyone else found this? I have a small super also. I'm not sure if this is the reason as I also passed 75 YO. I suppose I will have to ring them, and wait a couple of hours to get answered.

Yes,, it would save them a lot of money and time if there was a universal pension, as it use to be here. Does anyone remember when McMahon got one when he left parliament, and the outcry against this?

Yes Toby

I remember the days of Universal Pension which I firmly believe we should go back to.

Unfortunately, The government of the day took advantage of the McMahon saga and raised their own salaries and pensions and their lurks and perks and introduced a legislation for the rest of the elderly.

Kram ,you are so stupid ,Yes i do get a pension a greatly reduced pension.  and i do not send my wife out to work so she can support me,she is 55 years old and fit and healthy, she wants to work and she needs to work, she has to earn a living,or do you want her to go on the dole and let tax payer look after us fully. is that what you want Kram ?.A house owning couple may get $36000 a year if one dont work,But if one has to work as to be no burden on tax payer Kram the the other partners pension is reduced.and the working partner has to support the other because the government wont.  We have no other money Kram only the small amount she earns and my very small reduced pension. she would be better off on the dole Kram, is that what you want? Her $600 a fortnight and my average $500 is around 1100 $ a fortnight, 550 a week for two people,225 each a week, yes Kram we are so rich thanks for your kind words and thoughtfulness NOT.
