British Opening of Parliament   [slimmed down]

I've never seen the old Queen in so many different outfits. I wonder if they are stored or put into a museum for people to have a look at?.

Queen Elizabeth II is known for her colorful fashion choices. The bright neon hats and matching suits have become the monarch’s signature style and she seems to have them in every color. But when thinking about the queen’s wardrobe some have questioned what’s done with the outfits that she doesn’t wear anymore.

We doubt things worn by the longest-reigning British monarch get dropped off at a clothing bin. So what happens to them? Are they auctioned off? Thrown away? Here’s what Her Majesty does with her old clothes.

Queen Elizabeth’s wardrobe is made up almost entirely of matching suits and dresses, in fact, she’s only been photographed wearing pants once and that was back in 1970. She also mostly sticks to loud, vibrant colors and there’s a specific reason for that.

“She needs to stand out for people to be able to say ‘I saw the queen’,” her daughter-in-law Sophie, Countess of Wessex, explained in the 2017 documentary The Queen at 90. “Don’t forget that when she turns up somewhere, the crowds are two, three, four, 10, 15 deep and someone wants to be able to say they saw a bit of the queen’s hat as she went past.”

Andrew Bolton, a curator at the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Arts, agreed and told the New York Times that “She is not particularly interested in high fashion, but she is particular about clothes and interested in things that make her absolutely identifiable as queen.”

Her Majesty’s biographer Hugo Vickers added, “You have to be able to see that figure in a lemon coat and hat from far away.”

And if you’re wondering if what the queen’s favorite color to wear is that would be blue. She wears some shade of it 29% of the time. She also likes green which she breaks out 11% of the time, followed by pink and purple. Her least favorite color to wear is beige which makes sense since it’s not one that would grab the attention of a crowd gathered to see her.

When the queen grows tired of an outfit and wants to get rid of it she gives it to her dressers and they have two choices of what to do with it.

According to Brian Hoey’s book Not Infront of the Corgis, Her Majesty’s dressers are given the option of either wearing the clothing or selling it. If they choose the latter though there is a strict condition they must follow before it leaves their possession.

The royal author noted that it cannot be known that the article of clothing once belonged to the queen and therefore “all of the labels found on the clothes are removed and anything that could possibly identify it as having come from royalty are obliterated.”

Rather sad to see.

I also feel sad for Charles he has been walking on egg shells all his life waiting, trying to keep everyone happy, no wonder he put his foot down when he had the chance to wed Camilla.

RnR -  It's a hard way to earn your money.

A dingo-proof fence is set to be erected around Fraser Island's biggest township in an effort to protect visitors from the island's native dingo population.

It comes amid increasing community concerns about interactions between dingoes and tourists, that last month saw a toddler airlifted to hospital after being attacked.

The fence, spanning nearly 7km, will be erected around Orchid Beach and will cost the Queensland government an estimated $2 million. The new barrier will add to fencing already installed around 24 campgrounds and other major townships, such as Eurong, Happy Valley and Kingfisher Bay Resort.

I still think they are starving, not enough food on the island to sustain them, I find it very traumatic seeing animals deliberately kept hungry who go crazy with the smells of barbecued meat wafting in the air.  It's cruel.

:) I just like eating them on toast.

Reminds of years ago when we cruised, the Chefs used to carve all sorts on various objects like that, so clever they are too.

Such a tall and talented girl, good on her.

There are so many tall girls around these days RnR I used to be considered tall but not anymore!

On a lighter note ... WRITTEN BY KIDS.

1. HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHO TO MARRY?

You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff.  Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming.
— Alan, age 10

No person really decides before they grow up who they're going to marry.  God decides it all way before, and you get to find out later who you're stuck with.
— Kristen, age 10

2. WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE TO GET MARRIED?

Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER by then.
— Camille, age 10

3. HOW CAN A STRANGER TELL IF TWO PEOPLE ARE MARRIED?

You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be yelling at the same kids.
— Derrick, age 8

4. WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR MUM AND DAD HAVE IN COMMON?

Both don't want any more kids.
— Lori, age 8

5. WHAT DO MOST PEOPLE DO ON A DATE?

Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each other. Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough.
— Lynnette, age 8

On the first date, they just tell each other lies and that usually gets them interested enough to go for a second date.
— Martin, age 10

6. WHEN IS IT OKAY TO KISS SOMEONE?

When they're rich.
— Pam, age 7

The law says you have to be eighteen, so I wouldn't want to mess with that.
— Curt, age 7

The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should marry them and have kids with them. It's the right thing to do.
— Howard, age 8

7.  IS IT BETTER TO BE SINGLE OR MARRIED?

It's better for girls to be single but not for boys.  Boys need someone to clean up after them.
— Anita, age 9

8. HOW WOULD THE WORLD BE DIFFERENT IF PEOPLE DIDN'T GET MARRIED?

There sure would be a lot of kids to explain, wouldn't there?
— Kelvin, age 8

9. HOW WOULD YOU MAKE A MARRIAGE WORK?

Tell your wife that she looks pretty, even if she looks like a dump truck.
— Ricky, age 10

All good answers, I love the wisdom of children.

An incredibly rare black kookaburra has been spotted for the first time in decades hanging out in a man's backyard.

Experts are still baffled by the occasional crop up of albino birds, but say the all black kookaburra is rarer still.

Luckily, the Western Australian resident who first saw the bird in his backyard is an amateur photographer, and managed to get some shots of the unique bird.

An incredibly rare black kookaburra (pictured) has been spotted for the first time in decades hanging out in a man's backyard

Records state the bird has only ever been spotted once before in Western Australia, in a town named Coolup, 100 kilometers south of Perth.

Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions ornithologist Allan Burbidge said a black kookaburra in WA had been documented in 1951.

Lovely, thanks Suze. Lucky the photographer spotted it.

Suze - I somehow feel that the mother had mated with a big black crow.? Do you think it's possible?

Australia's colourful Cuckoo Wasp

Among the most resplendent insects to be found in Australia is the iridescent green, blue, and purple Cuckoo Wasp. As cunning as it is beautiful, this parasitic wasp lays its eggs in the nest of a ‘host’ species, whose unlucky larvae provide a food source for the wasp’s young. When threatened by a rival, the cuckoo wasp can curl up into an almost impenetrable armoured ball.

My son spotted one of these a few years ago and I tracked down what it was. As a result I bought him an Australian coin featuring the insect.

RnR - I have never seen a Cuckatoo Wasp or an Australian coin featuring the Wasp.

An endangered species of native wallabies has been pulled from the brink of extinction and saved from the jaws of feral cats, thanks to a breakthrough trial in central Queensland.

UNSW scientists have taken young wallabies and raised them in a protected shelter before releasing them, which saw an 89 per cent success rate. The conservation scientists say there is hope again for the species' survival, after seeing the largest recorded increase in the population during a trial of a new protection strategy at a central Queensland nature reserve in a fenced off a 10-hectare area at Avocet nature reserve south of Emerald.

Full ABC story.

And it is amazing that in how many states the cats are allowed to roam free and hence irresponsible people just let them do that.

My son got these shots of the lunar eclipse last night.
