How well is ageing portrayed on TV?

Hi there,

I just read this article about how there's much more to ageing than what you see on TV:

... and wanted to get your thoughts?

My very word there is--and it appears that once one turns about 45 or 50 you become invisible--and rather unimportant--when many of that age and much older have so much to share and teach.

Here are some some wise words from Bill Cosby>>

WELL WORTH READING !!!Bill Cosby "I'm 76 and Tired"
This should be required reading for every man, woman and child in Jamaica, the UK , United States of America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand andto all the world...

"I'm 76 and I'm Tired"

I'm 76. Except for brief period in the 50's when I was doing my NationalService, I've worked hard since I was 17. Except for some some serioushealth challenges, I put in 50-hour weeks, and didn't call in sick in nearly40 years. I made a reasonable salary, but I didn't inherit my job or myincome, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, it looks asthough retirement was a bad idea, and I'm tired. Very tired.

I'm tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth" to people whodon't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will takethe money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazyto earn it.

I'm tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day Ican read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives anddaughters for their family "honour"; of Muslims rioting over some slightoffense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren't"believers"; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoningteenage rape victims to death for "adultery"; of Muslims mutilating thegenitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an andShari'a law tells them to.

I'm tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must letSaudi Arabia and other Arab countries use our oil money to fund mosquesand madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in Australia, New Zealand,UK, America and Canada, while no one from these countries are allowed tofund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia or any otherArab country to teach love and tolerance..

I'm tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight globalwarming, which no one is allowed to debate.

I'm tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must helpsupport and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germrush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their nosesor stick a needle in their arm while they tried to fight it off?

I'm tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of allparties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthfulmistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was gettingcaught. I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

I'm really tired of people who don't take responsibility for their lives andactions. I'm tired of hearing them blame the government, or discriminationor big-whatever for their problems.

I'm also tired and fed up with seeing young men and women in their teens andearly 20's be-deck themselves in tattoos and face studs, thereby makingthemselves un-employable and claiming money from the Government.

Yes, I'm damn tired. But I'm also glad to be 76.. Because, mostly, I'm notgoing to have to see the world these people are making. I'm just sorry formy granddaughter and her children. Thank God I'm on the way out and noton the way in.

Well put,  I would just like to add that on hearing my age, people take a second look,,

you can read their mind, they're surprised I'm not only able to walk but can also talk,

without dribbling. I knew I was getting old twenty years ago, when on a train a young

girl about 21 stood up so I could sit down.

All so well said.

My current thought is, our age group has seen the best of what Australia can be..and younger generations will not know what it's like to live in a country where one is free to speak one's beliefs without fear of retribution from some minority group which has way too much influence, because they have the talent and the means to brainwash the apathetic public.

Yes I know--I have the same reaction--

Seggie. Me too.  Do others hear excuses like 'we are time poor' and do invitations not arrive any longer?

The senior citizens have a wealth of wisdom that nobody is interested in.  Even those of low intellect have the advantage of street smarts born of over 50 years of experience.  We have the single most powerful voting lobby in the World.  All of this & we can't even agree on the time of day.  If you don't have any desire to help or assist any of the less fortunate in the World, for God's sake stop complaining about the modern World being totally f..ked.  I hear no end of complaining about Julia.  Bob Brown has only a following of approx., 1 million & tells Julia when she may go to the toilet!!!  The retired Seniors of Australia number nearly 3 million & it would require only 12,000 Seniors to move to the North Brisbane area Seat of Lilley for 3 weeks & vote to kick out Wayne Swan to achieve something that Bob Brown could not even dream about.  BUT in general terms, you would much rather whinge & whine than do something for your Country.  Believe me:  The Seniors would only have to promise this & actually do this just once, to ensure that the Politicians would never ignore them again.
