How to peel the shell from a boiled egg

boiled egg with the shell half peeled

I woke up on Saturday with a craving for boiled eggs. As my better half was at work, I had the kitchen all to myself, so I immediately set about the task of boiling some eggs. The boiling bit was easy: sit the eggs in water 3/4 the height of the egg on its side, bring the water to boil and, once it's boiled, wait three minutes for a nice, gooey yolky egg.

The next bit was where I had trouble. Peeling the shell off a boiled egg is not much fun when you're not quite sure what you're doing. So, after chewing through a few bits of shell on my first effort, I dialled into that everyone-who's-looking-for-an-answer-to-something's best friend, Google, and typed in 'best way to peel a boiled egg'. And this is the video I found...

What do you think of that? Do you know of a better way to peel a boiled egg?

interesting.   my method is to peel the boiled egg under cold running water, or peel it in a container of cold water.  works OK too.

kika, I'm with you - under the cold running water :)

Technically similar to above.... I drain the hot water out of the saucepa and fill it with cold, when I'm ready I  will hold the egg under  the cold tap for a couple of seconds... that works for me and I don't waste so much water.... I put salt or vinegar in the water before I put the eggs in the water, not to help with the peeling but to prevent a burst egg from leaking out the shell...  that also works for me..... I don't have a problem with peeling boiled eggs...

As for the video, it all looks too hard for me and I really wouldn't have the time to shake each egg in a jar of water.... :) :)

Here's the easiest and quickest way to peel an hard boiled egg that I have seen.
