How to clean cast iron cookware

Cast iron cookware can last for decades if cared for properly. But it's not as simple as just putting your pan in the dishwasher or giving it a once-over in the sink.

Food website Greatist has listed what it says are the eight essential steps to take when cleaning cast iron. What do you think?

1. Start with a seasoned cast-iron pan

2. Rinse your cast-iron skillet with hot water

3. Use salt and oil to remove leftover gunk

4. Use a paper towel to rub the salt-oil paste in a circular motion

5. Wipe out the salt and oil

6. Rinse again and dry thoroughly

7. Rub in a bit more oil

8. Store with a paper towel placed in the pan to help prevent rusting

Would this method get your cast iron cookware clean? Do you do it a different way?
