How mean and disgusting!!!

Bags of household rubbish and furniture far beyond being able to be used by anyone, dumped in front of The Salvation Army shops. Huge costs and time to get rid of this rubbish.
Add this to scavangers who are not in any real desperation or even minimal need whatsoever and it is a wonder the Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul do not get so disheartened we lose all the op. shops......Do people not consider this stealing and littering? They sure should be charged as it has to be soul destroying for all the volunteers.

Yes this is very mean--lazy and disgusting--and the scavengers are no better than thieves!

I volunteer at an op shop. We know that this is the season for giving. Giving rubbish. We sort through the nasty and the good. At this time of year, we cop so much of the nasty - the garbage that they couldn't fit into the the rubbish bin, so have so very generously donated. It happens every holiday season. Of course, part of the problem is that the local Councils charge such a high fee for taking rubbish to the dump. We have a fairly large truck - it is full every week, but at Christmas, we have to cart away at least three or four trucks full, every week. It's no use donating anything that just needs a stitch or two, or for furniture, that just needs recovering. The people who come to us just need stuff they can use. We do get quite a lot of good stuff, but it seems to be buried. Rather like like a buried treasure hunt.

I notice that the Opp shops no longer take any elec goods--I have a few that work well but I don't need them any more--such a shame to have to throw them out

We have two op shops that still take electrical stuff, but they have to have them tested and tagged - that costs them at least $4 to $7 for each item. Of course, they throw out each and every toaster, electric jug. Not worth testing, when you can buy a new one so very cheaply. Our op shop only tests the larger items, like portable air cons, fridges and washing machines. Unfortunately, most of them fail. Why would you give it away, if it still worked properly?

I have just got a new system to go with the new Plasma--I am wondering if the old one was even better than the new one ? but I think the new one has all the needed plug ins at the back--other than that the older one is a beauty--it is a Pioneer receiver and I also have a turn table that has hardly been used at all

We had a few items of furniture that we did not need anymore and rang the salvos ...........A small van and two blokes arrived within a couple of days and they inspected every item quite thoroughly............they took 5 away and explained that the sixth was ..." well used "........We took it to our local Op shop and it was sold for a small amount of money

Every body was happy ................ :-)
