How an interior expert says you should decorate your Christmas tree

Christmas is fast approaching and many people are starting to decorate their homes

Victory Blinds interior design Stuart Clark, shares his  tips for decorating your Christmas tree this festive period.

1. Choose your tree’s position carefully
"Deciding where to put your tree is an important decision as it can alter the flow of your room. It’s nice to place your tree where it can be seen from the outside so close to a window or door. Avoid placing your tree in a hidden corner or by a strong heat source."

2. Design around a theme
"If you struggle to think of a theme for your Christmas decor or tree, simply choose two complementary colours, like red and green or gold and white, and use them as a base for your colour scheme that you can then work around."

3. Start with the lights
"Check that all of your lights work before placing them on the tree then, starting from the bottom and moving upwards, place your lights evenly over all branches. Once sorted switch them on and alter accordingly if one area could do with more or less light."

4. Choose ornaments carefully
"Place the star or your tree topper on top first before any other ornaments so you don’t knock any off.  Fill the inner branches with simple baubles and tinsel and place more decorative and any sentimental ornaments on outer branches so they can be seen more."

5. Add finishing touches
"Once you think you have finished decorating your tree, it’s time to add some finishing touches. If any areas need a pop of colour, use bright Christmas blooms or garlands or add a Christmas tree skirt around the bottom to hide any loose ends and to seamlessly incorporate the tree into your room."

We have not bothered to decorate the house now for a couple of years!

Nothing except a few Christmas cards, in fact I have only sent British relations and old friends in the UK Christmas cards.

Five years ago where we lived the street we lived in was mad for garden decoration the whole street was alive with flashing colour and people from miles around came and drove down our street to see the illuminations!

[not ours!]
