how about a site for caravaners and motorhomers

G'day - before you say it i am aware there are a heap of sites that cover these subjects BUT

we are Senior Citizens - a very unique group of people.

we are unique is so far as we have years of experience to share and we would be the largest segment of the tourist traffic in Australia.

have you noticed that discounts for seniors cards are not "thick on the ground" in touring our country - more so is discount given to joining different caravan park groups.

in Victoria the RACV recognizes years of membership and rewards accordingly but nothing like that is available in most areas.

there really must be thousands of us and i bet - if we united - then became affiliated with a powerful caravan and motorhome group then people like Coles and Woolworths would have some sort of deal for our support all over Australia.

at the same time we may get a better deal from some manufacturers like Windsor , Winebaggo and Sunliner.

there is always a way if we put our collective brains and brawn to the subject..

motor car sellers seem to have deals for everybody but me -

why could not we have a system where our members are directed to the best deal and not let many of our mates "pay through the nose"

seems like a good idea to me - what do you think

seems all that is needed to win these days is PROOF OF NUMBERS.

have a great day

Thanks Peter and you have a good idea here ................

Yes Peter I agree. There are so many Grey Nomads these days and Van parks are really charging so much these days

Sounds a great idea Peter and you know many older folk are nervous travelling

but if they knew many like minded people and in contact to meet up here and there while travelling

the nervous ones would find confidence to travel and if the places were of a good standard and accommodating to Seniors I bet many would enjoy travelling so very much more and in many cases take the plunge and get out there. Oten it is a dream but people too afraid to go for it.

shame hey? Initially having a place to talk and ask questions would be a great idea.

As you said numbers of people make so much difference when making deals so that has to be a good thing.

All the best matey

Phyl.

p.s. where is our mate Charlee these days?

do you notice that there is no "seniors discount" even on the different caravan park membership card.

that would be a start

i am a member of VKS737- a mobile radio club - they did have a discount for seniors but no longer.

many of these providers of service to the touring seniors need to realize that most of us elect to "explore" outside the usual holiday periods.

in the peak season we need to compete . but in the less than peak season many little towns, caravan parks and clubs would really feel a "pinch" without the seniors.

would seem to be a great idea if country towns had a sign on entry stating - This Town Supports Seniors.

we may then all support the town and expect some discount on our transactions.

every cent you can save is worth it. - cup of tea and a pie and sauce - $7.00 -

10% discount is not much but every day?

$24 per night in a van park - 10%

regards peter

Here is a good site also for Caravaners and such--there is also a place of the left of the page--called - Plan a Trip--very handy for any one to use gives directions and maps and Ks etc

http://www.goseeaustralia.com.au/

have lost track of Charlee - she was living under a bowling green and could not get a signal last i heard.

there are many many many sites about and for caravaner but they are not concerned with senior discounts and things of specific interest to us.

most of the van parks are now turning into mini theme parks and they need to be paid for but not many seniors use water slides - some would but most may not.

we may well chose to use a park with not as many facilities and expect there may be a discount there somewhere.

many seniors would appreciate a forum where they may communicate with others with similar ideas which may not involve all the things the younger set may enjoy.

just an idea

regards peter

Yes I agree that we as seniors don't use water slides and such--all we need is a shower/toilet/laundry and a safe pace at reasonable cost--I had to pay $58 in quite few van parks and I think that is WAY over the top

$58 a week?

Not a night is it?

Yes a night !!!

Phyl you have no idea what is going on.

last Christmas it was $45 per night at some NSW beach side powered van sites .

two weeks ago it was $38 per powered site at Swan Hill.

the alternate to not paying is not going into the park - so what do caravaner's do- pay of course.

that sort of money is necessary when all mod cons are provided for younger people viz. children but most seniors would prefer a site that may not be as attractive to the younger set.

everything needs to be paid for - that is agreed BUT some parks do not have the appeal for the younger ones and lets face it - most families can only get away for a limited time in restricted time spaces - that is High Season and we all pay more then anyway.

those parks- without the latest gear but -good clean amenities could well prosper if only they could attract the numerous seniors on the road all the time.

one way is a discount and just maybe advertising their products on this site.

again just a thought

have a great time

regards peter

A friend of mine paid the same when he was using just his swag--

Here is a site in Vic'

I conceed that, Peter S. I do not know nuffin about caravanning.................................BUT I think we might be interested to learn more me and my Peter....

We bought a nice big caravan to live in for a year when our General Store and Residence was burnt all up at Noojee and we lost absolutely everything but never took to taking it on the road

for holidays and just sold it when we moved to Portarlington.

I could start and cajole my Peter to tow a van maybe. Could be the start of all things new.

Look forward to you and other experienced travellers talking about "hitting the road"

Beautiful Day here in the Valley today. I have a big apple cake cooking so everyone welcome to come over :)

Phyl.

unfortunately visitors are forced to pay or no stay.

there are plenty of places for "almost self contained and self contained " people to stop but the caravan lobby is very strong at council level.

they insist on no competition at all and they always win.

many places like football grounds and show grounds could make some money by providing power water and toilets- they all have these facilities and do have free times but the cp lobby would not allow that.

some country towns realize that caravan/motor home and campers all spend money so it is their interest - for the local economy - to entice them to stay a while.

yes you may be forced to pay steep bills somewhere but maybe those places will become less attractive if better alternatives are presented.

for example why stay in The Gold Coast if the hinterland or NSW had more reasonable rates.

are you aware for example that not one park on the Gold Coast allows pets . the closest is Helensvale.

the suppliers of a service are designing the service to suit themselves and a shorter term client with the ability to pay more as the park is "home" as well as a baby sitter in many ways.

that is very good for those who want it but if i don't want it why am i forced to pay for attractions that i do not want.

some farmers are opening areas to make extra income and that could be an interesting development as many small farms are out there - close to many towns and cities as well.

have a great day

regards peter
