how about a site for caravaners and motorhomers

G'day - before you say it i am aware there are a heap of sites that cover these subjects BUT

we are Senior Citizens - a very unique group of people.

we are unique is so far as we have years of experience to share and we would be the largest segment of the tourist traffic in Australia.

have you noticed that discounts for seniors cards are not "thick on the ground" in touring our country - more so is discount given to joining different caravan park groups.

in Victoria the RACV recognizes years of membership and rewards accordingly but nothing like that is available in most areas.

there really must be thousands of us and i bet - if we united - then became affiliated with a powerful caravan and motorhome group then people like Coles and Woolworths would have some sort of deal for our support all over Australia.

at the same time we may get a better deal from some manufacturers like Windsor , Winebaggo and Sunliner.

there is always a way if we put our collective brains and brawn to the subject..

motor car sellers seem to have deals for everybody but me -

why could not we have a system where our members are directed to the best deal and not let many of our mates "pay through the nose"

seems like a good idea to me - what do you think

seems all that is needed to win these days is PROOF OF NUMBERS.

have a great day

regards peter

hey Phyl - we are mates - sorry did not mean to sound overpowering.

getting out and about is fantastic and unfortunately these costs developments have an adverse effect on - lets say - more mature tourists.

the parks are beautiful without doubt but it is not what many seniors are after and the result seems to be that many smaller parks feel that they cannot compete so close

that is not the case and we older people really want their services and at a reasonable cost.

regards peter

That's o.k. Peter S. Having a cry is good for the tear ducts :)

Do not worry I am o.k. now.

I am sure getting out and about and seeing Aus. would be very nice. I am not wrapped in travelling or even roughing it all that much but still we are interested in seeing our Country while we are able. I am sure you have asked Admin. if they would provide a room maybe? With a power point to make a cuppa would be nice :)

Be good

Phyl.

Interesting subject, and it's given me an idea for my next DVD. I am the producer of "Grey Nomad 101" which is new on the market after 2 years of traveling, videoing and editing. I'm already getting so many suggestions for "the next one" that we've actually decided to hit the road again next year and do exactly that!

A segment in the next one concentrating on aspects of particular interest to seniors, particularly anything that involves saving them money, would probably be very appropriate, so I'll start thinking about that. Meanwhile, I'll follow this forum with interest!

And, if anyone has suggestions they think I might be interested in and want to get them to me directly, then perhaps just email me at

sid@greynomad101.com

I don't often post here but I can possibly add something useful to this thread.

I am wondering if any of the posters belong to the CMCA. (Campervan Motorhome Club Australia.)

I have quite a few friends who are Grey Nomads (I wish it was me) and they all speak really highly of CMCA.

As members, they receive good discounts at most caravan parks......many are around $20. per site per night.

They always know which ones to stay in as they carry with them a copy of the very informative CMCA magazine called "The Wanderer's Mate." It really seems to cover everything.

It lists all of the parks by State and area and also gives details of the RV friendly towns where they have areas that you can camp for free and goes into details of facilities, how long you can stay etc;

I believe that they also have a members forum on their website.

Hope that this has been helpful.

Cheers.

And lovely it is to see a post from you Goldie!

That is very helpful - thank you as I am sure it will help many.

All the best

Phyl.

Would love this idea. To all those solo vanners, maybe you would like company and share the experiece and cost for those without vans. My hand will be up first

I am a new member of this site and am planning to start travelling Australia in 2010. I doubt I will be staying at caravan parks too many nights a week at the prices mentoned in this forum. I will have a fully self contained motorhome so am hoping to be able to camp as designated camping areas most of the time but obviously will need to use a powered site on occasion.

For those of you who may be interested, there is a website which gives many such camping areas which are either free or charge a nominal fee. Some allow pets and others do not. The address of the relevant page of the website is OzCamps Independant Camping for Australia at http://ozcamps.net/index.php?option=com_wrapper&view;=wrapper&Itemid;=29, and towards the end of the page, gives an interactive, clickable map of each free camp site by clicking on the relevant marker.

I realise that not everyone can make use of these camp sites but my plan will be to get up with the birds and go to sleep when it's dark to save my battery power. I will also have solar panels which of course help a great deal.

Hope this is of some help to you all.

Welcome to the forum Travelbug. You sound ready for your new adventure and have things

well worked out. Thank you for the site as I am sure it will help many. Great map.

We Need Peterseaford back. Where are you Peter?????

Your input and friendship means a lot to many of us.

Still always have your best, easiest, yummiest fruit cake on hand, and plenty

in the freezer and the ingredients to make more in the pantry.

Happy New year my friend.

Hi Goldie. Please post more here - always enjoy your posts.
