Home Brewed Ginger Beer but Alcoholic

Remember those days when the only fizzy drink we had was home made Ginger Beer and passed on the Ginger Beer "Plant" to friends, but was definitely non-alcoholic.

With the budget just in this may become a luxury we can produce ourselves.

Have you tried this recipe ?

I had friends that used to make their own alcoholic one and it was delicious but it sure had a kick in it.

When I was a child in the twenties,we had a cool cellar under the house, with stairs down to it outside, my mum used to make ginger beer from the plant, an dad {when he was home from his world tours}would brew his beer, I remember well the night time explosions, and would wonder if it was mum's ginger beer or dad's beer , memories.

My mum used to keep hers in the kitchen cupboard. They often exploded.

Vivity I don't have to remember.  I make ginger beer every week.  Hubby loves his ginger beer.

I always use plastic bottes and have never had one explode.

This is an interesting site for home made food stuffs :-

Sandi you young ones are spoilt, there were no such things as plastic bottles in my childhood, there was celluloid, I first came in contact with 'plastic' when a USAF lockheed lightning was shot down and we strpped the plastic shields and aluminium to make souvenirs, this is while a little battle was going on, very exciting. and stupid.
