Hoarders (sigh.....)

To my great joy, the local council has granted us a kerbside cleanup. The downside? Elderly parent is a hoarder. A lot of stuff needs throwing out - and I mean a lot!!! After much persuasion parent agrees that most of it can go, so I head for his garage.
Oh horrors!! Everything is a jumbled mess covered with dust, but I glove up and dive in. As fast as I remove it and pile it on the footpath, the scavengers are removing it, bless them - that means I can put more and more down.
I gradually clear it all up and manage to tidy and shelve all the items we want to keep. I sweep the floor, and discover a desiccated, mummified body of a rat. Something else scuttles away under a cupboard - don't want to imagine what it was but it had lots of legs.
Finally all done and the large pile on the footpath is reduced to a few leftovers, so I have made some people very happy, LOL!
The moral of this story is - beware of turning into a hoarded, because one day your children will curse you for it!!!

Yes I guess we all hoard things to a degree--I myself have to go through a few things--however they are all very usable--and still work--I really should sell a few

Remember when my Mum died. She was a hoarder, in the extreme. It took me and my brother two weeks to go through the two bedroomed house, and the three huge sheds. A lot of the stuff, in the house had never been unpacked from its wrapping paper, but it had developed the rust spots, which could not be removed. The stuff in the sheds was a different matter. So many antique items! They weren't in good condition though, so most had to be dumped. I'm so grateful that our local council has twice a year clean up days. I put stuff out, some of it is gone within hours. Then I get the people who knock on my door and ask may they take it. Of course - it's my rubbish, but it may well be their treasure.

Stands out the front on the podium and admits to the crowds "I AM A HOARDER"

.......................................

but every now and again I do give heaps to the op. shop. When we moved here just 2 and 1/2 years ago I gave SO much away and we put heaps and heaps out the front for the hard pick up (The man next door grabbed nearly everything and had a garage sale) lol.

BUT we still had the biggest removal Van and the big bogey behind it and our trailor and er we made 6 trips to a hired storage unit and filled it to the brim. Neighbours thought a tribe was moving in lol nah just me an him....

I think I was born this way so people please be compassionate....:)

Yes Phyl--I think it is that we hate to waste stuff--will give it away gladly--but hate to just chuck it

i always find if i have a clean up and throw it all out you can bet your bottom dollar a couple of weeks later i need something that i've got rid of,it happens everytime,

i bet this has happened to more than one person on here.

Absolutely so Wendy. See there is always a good reason we keep our treasures as "one day yes one day, it will come in handy" lol o.k. so maybe it never does but as you say the minute we get rid of it it is exactly what we need and have to rebuy.

Yes yes yes--that is what happens

I am the opposite - I hate clutter and feel uncomfortable if there is too much stuff around! I am often found sorting and discarding. I do have the knack of knowing what is really going to come in handy and what is not, fortunately. I am a bit of a time and motions expert - that skill came in handy whan I was working - and I like things streamlined.

I am not fond of clutter either but tend to have a bit around--my Step Daughter is very over the top and I hate spending time at her place --even though she is a very nice person--never feel comfortable--never feel like I can relax and it isn't just me--every one feels the same--everyone says they feel comfortable and at home here.

WELLLLLLLLLLLL! Being aGrey Nomad hoarding is a bit of a problem for me.

I do TRY very had not to keep everything.

At present I a having a cleanout. Cant decide whether to thow out my eldest ons name tags from school, they re still in good condition in my sewing box, or my youngest sons fooy cloth badges.

OH my! The boys would b horrified that I have still kept these things. They may have reached their forties , but they are still my babies.

Living in a caravan, little mementos DONT eed a lot of room. But the photo albums are heavy.

Like the drawer full of photo frames and no wall space for them. I cant bring my self to throw them away.

Have a good one.

Charlee.
